Best passive attenuator for loop?

Looking to tame some volume on a JCM. Don't really want to go with a attenuator yet but would like to try a passive volume knob for the loop first.

Any suggestions and why the one you recommend?

ANything with a volume knob/adjuster in the loop will do the trick. My friend uses a volume pedal and I use to use the level out on my mxr 10 band eq until I got an attenuater. I know JHS makes a little pedal with a volume knob for just that too.

Ive seen something like that on ebay not expensive but never had one.

Can you still get as good of a cranked amp tone this way as you would with a good attenuator?
