Best Pickup For All-Maple Guitar? (Update)

My vote would be a Super 3 as well. A ton of chuck in that pup. I had an EX270 for years. All Maple and had the same problem. Someone else mentioned Lynch loves Maple too and his Screamin Demon is mid heavy and may also balance out your tone. In that same realm of output DiMarzio Steve Morse pups are also mid heavy without too much drive.

If you want something to tame the highs and add some bass but don't want the high output of the Tone Zone try a Dimarzio AT-1. I put one in my maple neck through carvin with mahogany body and it helped tame the chirp

Motor City anything (Hot Head supposed to kill!!) Had same questions to Wade at Motor City and he's the best at helping find that sound in your head and what you envision. You will not be disappointed if you go w/ Motor City.

MCPs for sure. The Hot Head is also a great option as is the Garuda and Afwayu. I have the Hot Head in my Luxxtone. The Garuda is basically Wade's take on the JB without the annoying shrill high mid spike. Great pickup!!! Had a set in a ESP Horizon NT sold the guitar and now they reside in a cheap Dean Z.

Just to update everyone with the resolution, I replaced the stock wiring which helped alot, and then threw a 250k resistor on the new 500K pot and re-installed the Duncan JB and BAM this guitar sounds fantastic now!!

Thanks for all your help everyone!

glad to hear man....JB's are great pickups, glad you like.

whered you put the resistor? on the outer lugs to make it a roughly 250k pot?

HI,

I installed a ToneZone in my Gibson Rawpower all maple LesPaul. Change the overall tone of the guitar. Now the guitar sings...!!

Cheers,

A 250k resistor in parallel with a 500k pot would make it ~166k...

(R1*R2)/(R1+R2)

My Dimarzio Dominion is super thick but tight. I hear the Breed is also good for bright guitars. At least a lot of guys with bright Carvins think so.

yep! i read it wrong.

500k/500k would be roughly 250. thought that's what he did...
166 is low!
