Best pickups for early VH tones?

Does anyone know what pickups are best for replicating Edward's early tones? I'm a huge fan of Wolfetone Dr. Vintage pickups which are Alnico II design. I have a USA Hamer Korina Standard, but I'm not sure if the Dr. Vintage pickups are the way to go in that guitar?

Those wolf tones are probably paf style with alnico 2. Should be close to the Duncan evh/78. Supposedly what Seymour wound for Eddie. Others will swear by the dimarzio SD. Through the right amp you should be pretty close.

Oh and √ the custom custom. I like it for later DLR era albums.
Probably depends a lot on the guitar and of course gotta be able to play like him.

Someone else mentioned the Custom Custom also. I love the Wolfetone's in my 2010 R0, but wasn't sure about putting them into a Korina guitar? I'm not a big fan of the stock Duncan 59's. They're transparent, but they lack the punch of the Wolfetone's.

Depends on the amp. I like the Custom Custom, 59', and Dimarzio SD for that sound.....all of which are totally different pups. Another sleeper is the Dimarzio PAF Pro. I'm really starting to dig that pup in the bridge for early EVH vibe with a higher gain amp.

+1 on the 78s. A pair of uncovered zebras would look and sound killer in that axe! Awesome guitar!

I'd like to try the Arcane's, but they don't come in gold. I guess I could change the hardware since Hamer used TonePros parts. Hamer USA just announced it's shutting their doors, so I wanted to keep it stock. Maybe Arcane will make me a gold set?

For that guitar I would try to find a super 70's or super distortion to maintain the VH destroyer vibe. That said, I've found the EVH Wolfgang humbucker nails the EVH tone big time. It's an alnico II with 13.5k or so output. I've had the '78 and have the frankenstein humbucker in my back up axe and the wolfgang sounds so much better than both...The '78 is a little too low-output and the franky is a little too hot; the evh is just right

VH1 = Dimarzio Super Distortion (listen to the late Rockstah's clips)
VH2-1984 = Motor City 2nd Degree Blackbelt or Duncan 78
5150-present = Dimarzio EVH or Fender Wolfgang

If the 59's were a little hotter, I would just stick with them. They have a tight bottom-end, and a nice roll-off on top. Would removing the covers result in a more defined attack?

Duncan custom/59 hybrid with an A2 magnet. LOVE it for early VH...

The EVH(fender)Wolfgang pickups are alnico V magnets.
