Hi just wondering what would be a great rack unit for reverb and delay ,,, i have tried a g major in the fx loop and found it altered the tone of the amp a litttle bit to much ,,, i liked the eventide eclipse but i cant pick up a good deal second hand at the minute and a new one is a bit expensive, i have a time factor and nova reverb pedal but find it a pain to find space in a rack case , so looking for an all in one unit if i can . I play 80s metal and will be using a cali modded marshall when i get it in the next few weeks so maybe a kill dry feature could be good as it has a parallel fx loop but also can be used in series , rather use the parallel though so i dont have any volume drop ,,,, rocktron do a unit but have no idea if its any good ,,,,, any ideas would be great thanks

Gforce used will be the next tier of rack fx that you may be able to afford, around $7-800.

Hey mark..

hope your well mate..

tc electronic g major would fit the bill...sounds great through the loop of a cali mod..has the killdry feature too..

Mike's loops are retarded good so maybe trying the major again is a good idea.

hi darren , hope ya doing ok mate . Had a g major , was ok but could hear a cut in the low end of the amp when it was in the loop of a 5150, i like the time factor but its really a floor unit pluss i have to use a reverb seperate ,,,, i did look at the g force but the spec looked the same as the g major so didnt want to take the chance ,,, if its different i would like to hear why . cheers

ya might be right i havnt used the loop of the cali mod but i hear they are one of the best so maybe i should try it again ,,, typical i just sold the g major lol ,,,

the intelliverb is worth a look , people seem to like it better than the exprssion ,,, though i have a feeling it does not have a killdry on it ,,, will check it out though ,thanks

Hey Mark,

Check out the G-Major 2, it has the Kill Dry function and the FX sound fantastic. The build quality is also much better than the original G-Major, which is important if you're gigging. They changed the design of the parameter wheels on the G-Major 2, since the original G-Major's parameter wheels get intermittent due to dust/dirt getting inside them.

The FX Loop I'm putting into your Cali Mod works perfect even with the original G-Major. If you pull the cables in and out of the FX Loop Send/Return jacks while playing, you won't hear any tonal loss whatsoever :) If the G-Major messed with the tone before, then i would bet it was due to the design of the Loop in the 5150. The 5150's loop sucks IMO.

Cheers,
Dan

You mentioned that you play 80's metal so I thought I'd recommend some 80's gear. I'm still using my Alesis quadraverb and for what I do with it, it works great. I'm sure there are better newer units out but I plan to keep using mine as long as it still works. I picked it up on ebay for about 80 bucks seven or eight years ago and it has been a work horse. On the cheap, any of the old alesis units, midiverb, multiverb, quadraverb all sound fine. If you need fancy features or want effects other than reverb and delay I would look elsewhere.
