yeah the left side of the st. Anger album is most definitley a EM81 into a VH4 alright. i can get that sound easily.
Don't like any recorded metallica sound after that, which is the production and maybe also his signature pickups.

Korn untouchable is the first album to spot a VH4, although that is very scooped.

Tool 10000 days and fear inoculum also have a lot of VH4 on them. i can hear it when i listen to the record.

I do love my diezels, but i don't like the Tool sound too much. it's a bit too muddy and bloated -> probably the old VH4 version and high output pickups. mids and bass cranked and the presence rather low.
the old AENIMA is typical marshall which i am not too fond either.

If you play around with Deep vs Bass, Treble vs Presence and Master vs Channel Volume you can get quite a different sound out of a diezel and the diezelness can be tamed quite some bit and sound more traditional. But yeah, the transformers can never be dialed out.

I love James’s tone on invisible kid and sweet amber though people hate the songs
Agree. When isolated in certain sections on the Anger record (and the rehearsal performance) James' VH4 tone absolutely rips. Tons of attack and character with great mids. This, combined with Jones' 10,000 days tone is what started me on the path towards the VH4.

Really solid tone here....

I like these as well.

Prob not a Rigtalk favourite artist, but the elec guitar in this song is Diezel, most likely a VH4 I believe. Very tasty lead work. Dann Huff was borrowing the amp from John Shanks.

Intro on this take sounds pretty solid VH4

on Quadra too

VH4 Channel 4

At the 24 second mark into this song when Hetfield kicks into the main riff, you can really hear that thick and crunchy VH4 character:

Love this tone!!!

This album made me buy a VH4 before I had to move on...this track at 1:24 still has one of my all time fav tones, although it's hard to know how much is VH4 since Marshalls and Mesas are in there too. Cheers

I had one. Lived on channel 3. Ran it in stereo with a jvm. At the time it was the Herbert or vh4. I preferred the Herbert but brought home the vh4. Always regretted not buying the Herbert instead. I loved the vh4, don’t get me wrong…but that fuckin Herbert still haunts me.
