I love the new QOTSA. They have an original sound and very good song writing IMHO.

My favorite modern band right now is these guys.

Interesting. not my thing - to scattered,  But I can see why the ADHD generation digs it. It was cool though.

Depends on what you like.

I would rather hear Nickelback Rockstar than QOTSA.

Nobody in rock or Metal touches Metallica now.

And pop and new country blows that all away.

New country guy Luke Bryan sold over 500,000 copies of his new release in one week. With all the
Illegal copying today, that is phenomenal.

Strictly "rock" rather than metal? I would have to say Steven Wilson.
I'd have to agree with this... or for American flavor, Incubus.

Skeletonwitch. (Drop tuning, we don't need no stinking drop tuning....!)

QOTSA are great but the last album doesn't measure up to most of their others for me. Few awesome songs and some that are good but not blowing me away like their previous work.

For me the best rock band or rather the best band out there period is Karnivool.

Around here there is a kid named Billy Raffoul making some great music...

I never judge a band by one song.

I watched a few vids... ;)

Since the topic is somewhat vague I can't give just one answer, but here are my candidates:

Van Halen (Come on man, they boys are in their 60's and still bringing it)
Stryper (new stuff is amazing, Michael Sweets voice still going strong)
Avenge Sevenfold (I think they're carrying the torch right now for the modern stuff, diggin the new songs)
Black Tora (my favorite "unknown")

I'd really have to agree with you here Joe.

QOTSA is alright. Best rock band in the world? Bit of a stretch.

Volbeat is firing on all cylinders right now.

Really diggin the new STP song "Out of Time". If they continue along those lines I'll be quite happy.

There ain't no "best band in rock", there's too many good ones. QTOSA, Foo, Metallica, Volbeat.. I could go on and on.

I haven't heard a whole lot of QOTSA but have to say of what I have heard I CAN"T STAND.

In my world, Clutch is the best active "modern" band.

I would agree with this plus I really dig Black Star Riders too.

I understand the question, but the answer is still Led Zeppelin.

Both good bands. Black Country Communion would have been my choice if they hadn't broken up this year.

As for QOTSA, I can appreciate them but their music never really resonated with me.

Ever since Jake E Lee mentioned them on TMS, I've been digging In This Moment...their newest album is one of the more original sounding efforts that I've heard recently.
