My rig consists of a Diezel VH4S and a Rear Loaded German Made DIezel 4x12 w/ V30's and I love it. No changes needed there. I primarily play on channel 3 (70% of the time) and channel 1 (20% of the time) and I have a modern hard rock sound (like a Tool, APC, Breaking Benjamin, Anberlin, Chevelle, Acceptance, Coheed & Cambria, Nickelback (tone, not their music!), etc.)

I play a PRS SC250 with stock pups (Tremonti in the bridge I believe). I also own an Epiphone Les Paul Elitist in Black with stock pickups (Pretty sure it's a Standard and I would be willing to guess 60ST in the bridge based on my research). I thought I liked the sound of my SC250 but then I upgraded my rig and even after dialing my amp in my rig sounds really muddy and "crappy super cheap metal distortion pedal muddy". I then went to my Elitist and I liked how it seemed "clearer" and "beefier" yet still had somewhat of a vintage sound. It even seemed to handle heavy palm mutes all right.

I know I'm going to have to try a bunch of guitars to find what works and I know that my favorite production line of guitars are PRS. I've also owned a Custom 24 and Custom 22 (which was my favorite to play so far). I'm debating getting a McCarty or Modern Eagle Quatro since they're not making the Custom 22 anymore and I have my eyes set on a few to pull the trigger on but need to go try them first. I'm a short guy and I want to get a guitar that still sounds phenomenal but also one I can play on stage and move around a little easier as well as access the higher frets.

Any recommendations on what PRS guitar I should try? Any other guitars I should give a shot? What pickups should I give a shot if I find a guitar I like? My stipulations are that I want a fixed bridge and a double cut. I don't care if it's 22 or 24 frets. I normally tune down to Drop D and a Half Step Down so I'd imagine I'd probably want to stick to a 25" scale.

Thanks in advance for responses!
Andrew

Those Elites/Elitist are kickass guitars. Put in a hotter set of pickups from Bareknuckle and you'll have all you need.
If you like 25" scale guitars, check out Carvin. Lots of bang for the buck.

That new PRS Studio is way nice :)

as far as pickups, you can't go wrong with Seymour Duncan.

text me and we can try and figure out some pickups that would work well for you!

If your going spendy (like PRS route) try out some Suhr and Anderson's too. I play a Modern with a 100w Einstein and it's nice and beefy and rips but can also be clear and delicate too. If your not looking to spend a grip maybe check out Charvels or Carvins :dunno: ?
As for PU's? Can't really go wrong with Bare Knuckles or Duncans

You won't regret getting a McCarty, I love mine and as much as I love my les pauls it eats them up.

If you can find one of the old ones with a rosewood neck they're just out of this world. DGTs feel ridiculously good in the hand too, but take a peak at the Peavey and old Ernie Ball Wolfgang guitars, still haven't found a better neck and bigger bite on a guitar.

I like the PRS DGT but I do not do tremolo's only hardtails. I've heard a lot of good things about the McCarty's and have always loved how the PRS guitars play. I've also heard a lot of great things about the PRS Studio! Too many toys!!!

That's 2 mentions for Carvin guitars already... I checked out their website and they look pretty sweet. What are they like/what do they compare to? Anyone know where can I play one of these? Heard great things about the Charvel guitars as well.

I have an SC250 also, I'm not 100% gone on the pup's and they do seem to react differently depending on the amp, they seem a little thick which tends to suit a brighter amp. I also have a custom 22 which I've just put BK nailbombs in, sounds super clear with great distortion but maybe a little thin.... so I might try swapping the SC and CU over, the brighter/clearer pup's may suit an SC better so I'll report back.

Find a Carvin model that you like and go through the builder on their website. Pick all the options you like and order it. If you don't like it then send it back.

I want one of these DC127's with the rounded body -

Maybe I'm late to the game but: +++ for Carvin! Swap the stock C22 pickups for Bareknuckles and you got a fantastic guitar at an affordable price! As far as Carvin's own pickups go, the H22s seem to get a lot of love.

I'm liking the Carvin love! My drummer did this and he got a great high quality built guitar for under $800 (gloss white finish w/ white head stock, hard tail with black hardwear and tung oil neck) with a hardshell case! Same type of custom order from Charvel or Suhr woulda cost at least 2K. They are a far underated company. Where else can you custom order something then send it back if you don't like? They have LP style guitars and many neck scale lengths to choose as well.

Buy Reza's 22 and drop some PAF type pups (8-10k) in and you're all set!

Carvin guitars look much better than they play. Their head quarters is 5 miles away from my house here in San Diego.

I personally don't think that Carvin is worthy to be paired up with any Diezel amp.

You want to step it up from a PRS then Check Out The Ed Roman Quicksilver

I've been playing PRS CE 24 wide/thin maple neck for years. The Quicksilver puts any PRS to shame.

Yeah I've been reading a lot about Carvin and I have read a lot of what you're saying so I don't think I'm going Carvin.

I have fallen in love with the PRS McCarty 58. Lighter than Les Pauls, plays better and way more resonant and versatile! Does anyone play a McCarty 58 with a Diezel amp? How do you think it would match up? Considering the factors of the 57/08 pickups, vintage sound, etc? I play A Perfect Circle, modern rock stuff.

I have heard mixed things about the Quicksilver guitars. Some people say they're some of the best others say not so much. I've also heard the customer service has been sketchy on many occasions.

How do you think the Quicksilver guitars will be now that Ed Roman has passed on?
