Better clean on VH4 Chanel 1

Hi everybody !

With my band, we play one or two Pink Floyd songs at our concerts, the other songs are more oriented Metal.

For these Pink Floyd songs, I use some effects (boost, fuzz, chorus...) on my VH4 Channel 1, Bright switch ON.
But I would get better clean tone, like a Hiwatt Custom 100.
I know, the simplest is to buy a Hiwatt, but for two songs...

Do you know if a preamp tubes change could help me, without sacrificing the Channels 3 and 4 tone ?

Thanks :)

What don't you like about the channel? And have you tried cranking the channel level and master and controling the volume with the channel's gain knob? How did you like that?

I think that there is not enough headroom.
I don't not know if it just because of the amp design, or if it can be reduced by a tube change...

For example, le bright switch is ON, Gain at 10H30/11H, volume/treble/mid/bass at 12H00.

Take gain down to 09H00, and turn channel volume up to 14H00 or 15H00.
Lower bass to 10H00
Roll you guitar's volume knob back just a hair.

Should do it fine.

Currently having over 75 guitars, it blows my mind how some guitars and amps do not jive, pickups are the easiest culprit too. I am going to make a wild guess that your guitar has humbuckers and can't be split for single coils? My VH4 cleans are incredible and and neck single coil (dimarzio air norton humbucker split to single coil) offers the best tone to my ears for cleans. Amazing powerful cleans. The best of any pickup combination I have tried yet.

Hi !

I have 3 stratocaster.
1 with dimarzio humbucker
1 with lace sensor single coils
1 whith 100% stock single coils

I play the clean chanel with single coils :)

Do you mean headroom = not enough volume
or
Clean headroom = does not stay clean and starts clipping

I have never had any issues with the first and if the later is tha case here you might have too hot signal before the Ch1 input (pickups, pedals, etc.).
