Got a set of Mercury Magnetic Transformers, chassis and an old school head shell. Getting ready to cook up a single channel version of this beast, but going to switch a few components to match some of the pre-prod units. This amp is too much fun

Sweet! I'm so close to convincing myself to build a simple single channel too.

Very curious to hear what you think when you built it, how much the difference between prod and preprod is. Only have experience with prod CCVs and yours sound VERY close. A little more open from the Clips, but that might also be something else in the signal chain like speakers, mics, ...
im also using a 3H choke vs a 10H. A 10H will sound a little more compressed. I am going to use a different choke, but honestly I am going to give up one trying to find an exact match. I've seen the insides of 3 pre prods and all were different. Also the the gain style stayed in the left, position, not the high gain position

That different choke is probably what I hear. And completely agree: no reason to stay 100% to the original when you know what you want and how to get there. I wish I could do that too.

alright, the headshell and logo are done.

Looks and sounds great! Really nice work. Oh, and I'm in if you ever decide to sell. Really in........

Nice! Is that head shell from Valvestorm?
Yes. I get my chassis, headshells, faceplates and logos from Robert. He's great to work with. The project chassis are ideal for so many different builds and because Robert has the CAD files for the chassis, if you do the plates through him they are a perfect fit. I cannot speak highly enough for his service.

BTW, forgot to mention. That’s what I would change about the CCV if I could. To me it sounds a little too full in the mids and feels a little not direct enough. Of course all a matter of preferences and still one of the best high gainers I’ve ever played...

So idle curiosity which MMs are you going with? Are you going to try the 10H on the single channel or stick with the 3H?

Thanks! I suspect I'll be grabbing a chassis etc from him when I finally get around to trying my hand at a build. Still getting my soldering skills back up with some pedals at this point.

if I can find a cheap 10h I will use that, otherwise I have a heyboer 3h already. The MM chokes are almost the price of a classic tone OT. I hade a MM10h I tried in the BE, but preferred the 3H. The MMS are the O100JM and
MP100-475

Cool thanks. I see the PT has the extra 12v tap, I assume you're going with elevated DC heaters on the single channel? Was considering trying to put together an Atomica but that was one thing I figured I'd add along with using the Depth / Punch from the Cameron Jose schematic I have... that's assuming I can work out the layout. I'm learning but it is slow going with some of this stuff.

The MM iron is certainly not cheap   That said I can see using it when trying to cop a Cameron vibe since he always uses the MM iron.

I honestly dont think the iron is as critical. You get that tone with stock Marshall Transformers in most of his mods. My PT does not have the 12v taps, so I will be doing elevated heaters.

Next up shouldn't take more than a week to build since I have all of the parts I need. I will have to wait on faceplates though. This is a cheap build since I am repurposing iron.

CCV-like single channel.
Mercury Magnetics Transformers
Valvestorm chassis
Tefzel wire, hookup and coax
PRP and Holco resistors
Undecided on caps. Maybe CDE 940C
Going to try some diifferent values observed in pre Brad era
