I found what I believe to a FAR better quality version of DM. Search for the promo version on the Torrents. Ripped versions of the album release version on my MP3 player were UNUSABLE due to clipping. This version seems far clearer in this regard. Apparently the LP is like this too. Apparently it's 2db quieter.

It may not be perfect, but IMHO it's FAR better than the album version, especially on an MP3 player. I'm still REALLY digging the album, Suicide and Redemption is probably my favourite. After that, it's a toss-up. TDTNC is DEFINITELY the worst song on the album though.

Hope this helps any people with the same problem.

Thanks for the heads up....gonna go look for it.

TDTNC is probably one of the worst on there for clipping...I think it's an OK song...I quite enjoy that NWOBHM/Metallica jam-out to the end..even if the transition is odd...it could've been a great song with more work on the arrangement tho'

It's weird how taste works tho'..I really like the disc but Suicide and Redemption bores me to tears...my favorite song..maybe Broken, Beat and Scared...that whole riff with the bass that starts at 1:00  although Judas Kiss and All Nightmare Long are very cool too....in fact, if I had to pick a bad song..it'd be the instrumental..otherwise, everything else is

I've heard so many people say that about the instrumental, but I love it.  So does my guitar teacher actually. There's no accounting for taste. I LOVE that riff in Broken, Beat and Scarred. Also really dig The End Of The Line and Judas Kiss for riffs too. It's a great album imo.

The promo clips a lot too unfortunately. I am kinda waiting for the Guitar Hero 3 rip since that one is supposed to NOT clip at all...

I said it wasn't perfect. It's a HUGE improvement on the commercial release though I think. Especially through headphones.

I thought it sucked but I'm picky. Oh well. :aww:

Not sure if there's any truth behind this, but I was talking to a friend of mine the other day and he was telling me about a conversation he had with an engineer friend of his. Apparently when Sterling Sound received Death Magnetic for mastering, they were told that it was to be the loudest album done to date regardless of any clipping. True or not, it would account for why the "demo" version sounds better than the mastered version.

There is a demo and a promo, which are different. I checked out the demo and yes it sounds a lot lot better. Its odd because the guitars use a recto and are tuned a half step down from the album. Still sounds a LOT better.

I agree with Redrol that through a decent system it's far from perfect, but versus rips of the original at ANY quality on my Creative Zen (which were TOTALLY unusable, the intro to the Judas kiss was like a fuzz face) it's a VAST improvement. I can tolerated the CD for listening at home, and this gives me a usable MP3 player version. Unless the GH:III rips pan out, this is the best it gets right now.

This was really only meant as an MP3 solution, other forums have been reporting the same MP3 player issues I had. This mostly solved it, so I thought I'd share. At least I CAN listen to it on the bus now.

Weird, I thought TDTNC was the worst song on there, and the instrumental was the best. I still enjoy the album even though it clips.

My favorite song is The Judas Kiss, that chorus is fucking sweet in the vocals ad guitars

So im listening to the DEMO (not the promo) and my god is it badass. The mix is an actual mix, not a ruined piece of limited/compressed trash. You can hear each instrument clearly and for whatever reason they fall into the grooves way better. Get this version asap. It makes the retail release seem like a joke.

There's a Death Magnetic guitar hero rip out there now that has about 90% less clipping in it. Sounds way better than the CD version.

It's gotten to the point where I can't even listen to this album anymore, and I've only had it for 4 days. Not only are all the songs bad, but the recording and guitar tones just push me over the edge.

In four years I bet we'll see them release DM again in a remastered format and everyone will buy it again so they can make a bunch more money.

I'm sure the CD sounds perfect. It's out now ya know. You oughta buy it. Especially before Lars goes on a pirate mp3 tyrade on MTV if he hasn't already.

I just snagged the Guitar Hero tracks. They're light years better. The snare isn't clipping! You can hear the kick nice and proper, the drums punch more, there's real dynamics, the guitar tone is fuller, the bass is clearer...
