Big Hairy Guitars doing Zakk’s early tones

Thanks for posting this! I've read most of the interviews with the producers/engineers and Zakk, but to hear it like this is great.

Pretty damn cool. I have an Ampeg Lee Jackson, and damn is a great it unreliable. I have had to repair it once and a few weeks months ago it went down again. Fuck. Sounds good though.

So the Miracle man tone.. that's the combo with NO DS-1 driving it? I'm assuming that gain from the master being up fairly high and the EMG's? I've got one of those combos and mine only delivers the goods if you get master up almost full and open up the presence a bit. I find this interesting because supposedly Jason Becker's a lil' ain't enough tone with DLR is also a JCM800 on the rythms and i am asking myself how they were grinding that much gain out of it. Must be high output pickups there as well.

The tone on the No More Tears album ranks in my top five guitar tones ever. Probably one of the best straight up hard rock tones ever recorded.

I think Michael does a great job on both capturing Zakk’s tones and playing.

+1

But yeah. Wow. Thanks for posting.

Looked like he might have been coping a tone match in the back there with a Kemper   Can't blame him right?

Also, one forgets how much string bending Zakk did/does. I'm sure Victim can attest :D

Jason said in a Guitar for the Practicing Musician interview, the one that has that song in it, that it was "the new Marshalls", the JCM 900 on LAI.

You can hear how that Yamaha SPX90 is a big part of that late 1980s-early 1990s sound. It's a different chorusing sound to earlier (and later) times.

Yeah that Yamaha Symphonic preset was used all over the place. Guitars. Bass (Duff McKagan). A lot of folks used it on backing vocals too. It was just one of those magical things that just works.

Supposedly the Symphonic preset is in the Yamaha Magic Stomp pedal, but I'm not sure if it's actually the same algorithm from the SPX90.

Awesome. No Rest FTW is one of my fav Ozzy anything, with killer guitar playing and sound.

That was great  Quite the selection of gear he has there, holy smokes....

Yup, that's killer....loved those early albums (pre beard!) \m/

Michael’s videos are always exceptional.
Great stuff. Thank you.
