BIG Marshall tones, healthy low end...Fortin? Friedman?

After years of being sort of a "boutique snob" I've come full circle. I plugged into a bone stock reissue JCM800 last week that blew me away. WOW! Talk about BALLS!!! HUGE bottom end! The only thing it lacked was channel switching. But on the rare occasion that I play solid bodies right now... I'd just as soon use my Plexitone or OCD to kick things up a notch and let the amp's single channel do the rest. I gotta say though... the price that the dealer wants for the reissue is INSANE!!! $2350, no trades, no discounts.

Splawn Nitro has that modded Marshall with huge low end tone in spades.
Or A Cameron Ocean mod :)

Thanks for all the suggestions guys. I'm probably gonna sit on it for a bit while I save.

That YJM sounds really nice, surprisingly.

Let me clear the slate and simply ask...how would one describe the Fortin tone?

thanks

This > :m17:  :worship: :inlove:  :rawk: Of course just my opinion based on the mod he did for me and many clips i've heard.

How about this one, will look slightly different in final form, but designed by Friedman, built by Metropoulos what more can you ask for, tuned by the master.
I heard Steve's Marsha live last October and it killed, now the amp has a super clean channel as well.. the YJM 100 is a good amp for a new Marshall as well..

fearhk213,

That helps quite a bit actually, thanks!

The openness of Mastodon's tone is actually one of my favorite aspects. It's still gainy, still tight, but huge and open sounding. That's sort of what I am going for here.

Does anyone know if the Bones is more akin to a Cali mod than to Mike's "heavier" offerings?

cheers

Joe
Diezel.
:D

I have thought about Diezel, but they seem the opposite of open sounding? Very compressed in general, si? Also, not sure how I feel about the cost.
