Who's owned one? What did you like or not like about it? I'm pretty damn sure since Seymour Duncan won't make me a white Dimebucker I'm going with the L-500-XL. If Dime and Nuno used them they must rock!

yep :D :rawk: get one! they can sometimes be a little harsh on the highs, but its probably my bad technique. go for it. they rock!

Well the JB in my BC Rich sounds a little middy. The Dean sounds sooooo fat, nasty and throaty. I love it. I hope the L500 doesn't give me to many mids. I heard it's actually warmer than the Dimebucker.

nah, it isn't too middy. compared to the JB, i can't say, sorry.

I own the L500XL from Bill and Becky lawrence, and i also own the L500XL in the Dean CFH guitar. They sound different to each other.. the one from Bill and Becky sounds more chunky and thick, and the other one sounds much more like Dime's sound (more like the Dimebucker you have now). Both are great pickups

ive thought about one too.. but I always forget.. which one did dime use?

Be Careful as there is another person posing as the real Bill Lawrence coincidentally his name is also Bill Lawrence. Check both links.

This is the Bill Lawrence that I personally know and have friends that use his pick ups.

I got the right guy. Talked to Becky( I think) today. I'm not ruling out other pickups but I'm pretty damn sure I'm going with the L-500-XL.

I had one in a Les Paul. One of the worst sounding pickups I've ever heard. Way too harsh and way too much output. Sounds almost exactly like a Dimebucker which I also hate. If you like the Dimebucker I can't see any reason why you wouldn't like the L500XL.

I imagine it has to do more with how it interacts with the Marshall VM than anything else.

yeah, StewMac sold those POS "Bill Lawrence" ones for awhile (don't know if they still do) back in the 90's. I bought a couple and put them in my Jackson and it was the worst shrill sound ever. I did order some "real" Bill Lawrence and put them in my Jackson and it's an absolute shredding machine now.

Definately go with the "real" by Bill and Becky

Dime used both the "Bill and Becky" and the Bill Lawrence USA (Stew-mac) versions. I've been playing with them for 25+ years.....here is my take on them.

B&B - They are hit and miss, some are outstanding and other are just ok. granted they are "handmade" etc... but they are really lacking in consistancy. I've had some that were AMAZING, and had some that sounded like crappy single coils...

BLUSA - Very consistant, sound really good, flip them (like Dime did) and they really come alive, for some reason they sound like a completely different monster backwards, but badass none-the-less.

Watch the Dime Clinic vids on youtube, it's where he states he gets them from stew mac..but I've also seen and have pics of his DFH with the B&B pick-ups as well..

Try them both and see which one you like, I prefer the BLUSA personally, but I have a B&B one as well, (it's one of the good ones :D ).....FWIW, I dont think there is a "real" Bill Lawrence, I think they are both full of shit, but if you come across a good pick-up from either company, cool.

Yeah, i think Dime used the Bill Lawrence USA primarily.

The other guy (his name actually isn't Bill) selling Bill lawrence pickups (bill & becky) used to work for Bill lawrence USA or something? Obviously, later on he then started his own company under the Bill Lawrence name.

So, in reality Bill Lawrence USA is the real original Bill Lawrence pickup company.

I've used the L-500XL USA, and it sounds good in some guitars, not good in others. It's a fairly bright sounding pickup.

From what I've read, both dudes selling p/ups under the Bill Lawrence name truly aren't even named Bill Lawrence...One of them has a foreign name, IIRC.

I had a Bill and Becky p/up and I didn't like it too well. Harsh and not enough mids, IMO...At least that's how it sounded in comparison to what I was used to (Duncan Distortion, JB, EMG 81's and 85).

The Bill Lawrence USA 500XL is thee one. The Bill and Becky is OK but not as bright and biting as the USA. I think you can get these at Stewart Macdonald. I got mine from Stew Mac about 18 yrs. ago...It sounds great through a cranked Plexi...pushes the amp nicely... It is the pickup where the coils are submerged all the way full with epoxy..the Bill and Becky is not...Something about that USA model...and NO the Duncan DimeBag pup doesn't sound as cool... the USA is nice and clear with a lot of bite yet roars at the same time
