Couple things with respect to this video...

Corgan is so cool - first up, most of the Premier Guitar rig rundowns have the tech - not the star - going through their gear.
Corgan's got a laid back, zero ego attitude, I always like that about a person, especially one who's so in the limelight.
He professes to "not be technical" but also stands firm on many technical things - short cables, fewer FX, direct-in sound, etc.
Knows his guitars.

I really enjoyed this video! Thanks for posting.

Unfortunately he most certainly does have a huge ego. When Rush got their star on hollywood blvd they were at Musicians Institute as their star is right in front of the school. Corgan was there and demanded all the MI staff that were in the room leave so that he could talk to the guys in private. The guys in Rush? Super cool and were happy to chat with MI staff, and they're way bigger stars than Corgan. That said, I do love me some early Smashing Pumpkins.

Yep, HUGE ego. It's unfortunate because I grew up on Siamese Dream and Melloncollie. When he recently said Soundgarden are back in it "for the money and not for the music" I was like, ...really? Hmmm, Billy, aren't you the ONLY original member in Smashing Pumpkins but you're still using that name for your records???? Sucks when people you once respected turn into turd sandwiches.

I'm annoyed with him. He crashed and burned with Zwan and quickly jumped back under the SP umbrella. The material since Adore is watered down tripe IMO. i think he blew his load on Mellon Collie. All of that said he was a huge early influence for me.

I was an early adopter of the modular line and campaigned heavily for certain custom modules and was told it couldn't be done or it would be uninteresting. Lo and behold most of the stuff I was after are in that rundown. Apparently you have to sing like shit and destroy your catalogue to move product these days. Whatever, sour grapes and to the victor go the spoils.

Oceania is actually a pretty good album, especially compared to Zeitgeist and Teargarden. His ego has been well document over the last decade plus. He is intelligent and of course not everyone is an asshole 24/7, but he does have his stupid, stupid moments. He also over-thinks EVERYTHING and likes to spin the most mundane topics into something social/political or whatever, which gives him a real asshole vibe to many people. He's an odd duck, but nonetheless I'm a HUGE Smashing Pumpkins fan (username, lol), and have enjoyed everything with the only shady areas being Zeitgeist and Corgan's solo albums. The rig... seems like overkill, but I'm surprised to see him using those modules and using less on his board than in the past.

Oceania is much better than I thought it would be, especially Violet Rays. Love that tune. I go back and forth on Corgan...can't really decide if I love or hate the guy.  Either way, he was a huge influence on my songwriting and I love the earlier albums.

This modular rig is actually pretty cool. I can see how some would say "unnecessary" but it must be nice having your whole studio in a rack rig. I think it's a cool idea and it seems a valid option for someone who wants to stay very true to the albums and take those tones on the road without traveling with 10 amp heads. Just wish he'd keep his mouth shut on certain topics...

I stand correct in the ego department, apologies :salute:

I've watched a number of videos of Corgan during interviews, with his opinions et al, and maybe it's the fact that he's very opinionated, and I share many of his opinions that I found him so cool and "non-egotistical". I guess it is what it is. I'm not here to defend him, as it's all just showbiz, but I dig the guy. And in this video above, at least he seemed laid back, friendly, open and "disarmed" (no pun intended).

And although Soundgarden's new CD may be rockin (I haven't had time to listen to it yet as Koi No Yokan has been rocking my hizzy 24/7  ), if you saw their last tour (Soundgarden) I woulda thought they were only in it for the money as well. I thought they'd lost their jam after that tour - it was sadly, a fkn snooze.

Peace Cats,
Mojo

Why would anybody care if BG was getting "90%" of his guitar tone from whichever respective album?? I think he comes across very egotistical and didn't have his guitar tech do the video because he's a camera hog. I chuckled when I saw this video because I never equated Corgan with great tone, plus the way he kept referring to his "Billy Corgan Signature Guitar" got a little annoying.....I will admit that I am a little skewed because he reminds of a lead singer/guitar player I once worked with that annoyed the shit out of me.....plus, his attempt to copy Tyson Meade's vocal style from the Chainsaw Kittens pales in comparison......IMO.

Tyson Todd Meade (born September 15, 1962) is an American musician, painter, writer, teacher, and disc jockey best known as the principle singer and songwriter for pioneering alternative rock bands Defenestration and Chainsaw Kittens. Defenestration is credited in the book Road to Nirvana as one of the bands that influenced Kurt Cobain’s music[1] and Billy Corgan often credited Chainsaw Kittens as one of his favorite bands—Corgan even once wrote Meade when he was working the first Smashing Pumpkins album lauding the brilliance of Chainsaw Kittens first album, Violent Religion.[1] Meade has been referred to as the Godfather of alternative rock music.[2]

Corgan chose the best solution to having multiple amps, I am a big MTS guy and theres nothing i like better than seeing the pro's using RM4's and custom Salvation Modular Preamps... I myself have a randall rm100,rm50 and a rack mounted rm4 and ive got 12 modules for them killer tones all around!
And the best part its ALL TUBE even the modules each contain 2 12ax7's

Clearly you've never met Corgan if you think he's a laid back, zero ego dude. He's anything but.
