birth of zachman's rig

I'm buying my first pedal board, I've always been just a plug it straight in with maybe a stompbox or two kinda guy. But then came the talkbox, A/B switch, slave out, etc....
So anyways, from my point of view it does seem a bit overwhelming! (but very cool nonetheless)

I used to be a pedal only guy too, and still am sometimes (more times than not). I guess everything is hard until you learn it.

Big +1 to this. Once you learn everything, it's very easy, especially when it's nicely color coded and labeled. :) I'm actually in the process of building 2 rigs. One will be my rack rig where I'll have rack units, head switchers, pedals in midi controlled loops, amps, blah blah. The other will have only pedals (few boosts, delay, flanger, phaser, wah, and tuner). That way, I'll be able to choose whatever I want based on my mood. :D

I am still in awe that your sales person providing the demo was Bob Bradshaw himself...yeah Im a n00b to the whos who crowd

Zach and Pat!
Two "tone-Bro's"
Great video, guys!!!
Real cool to see !!!

Enjoy that monster rig!!!
Keith

Seriously, that toggling of the dry switch seems confusing with the intensity knobs on the 1210.

It really seems pretty complicated  :aww:

BTW, I finally hooked up my quadmidi-thru box and I'm switching stuff on 4 different Midi PC channels.

That thing looks freaken killer. Wonder how heavy that thing is

I noticed all the FX, but what preamp/poweramp are you running in that rig?

That looks pretty killer, but my Waialua edumacation only prepared me for an attention span worthy of guitar - cord - amp.....

that rack looks intimidating to me zach !!! sounds awesome though

re: the Dry switch... I'll try to explain it for you.

Instead of having a normal parallel setup where each device goes to a channel (then panned) of a mixer and then the stereo outs that sum the signal together come out L/R outputs (which means that each device is only being affected by the original line signal from that device right?.?.) Well, we did 2 mixes not just one like the example I just gave of the typical scenario.

I am technically running not only W/D/W but rather/in addition WD/D/WD.

Mix 1 = dry signal (switchable), TC 1210, and Eventide H8000FW... Mix 1 feeds Mix 2.

Mix 2= TC 2290, and the Lexicon PCM-80

SO... I HAVE TO have a signal from Mix 1 going to Mix 2 in order for the stuff in Mix 2 to work (ie 2290, and the PCM-80).

There are a couple ways I can do this. Either I can have the 1210 on (It's in Mix 1), or the Eventide on (it's in mix 1), OR I can just have the DRY signal ON, OR any combination of those 3, which means that there is NOW signal feeding Mix 2. In this way I can have the 2290 not only delaying the original unaffected amp signal, rather I can have it delaying the TC 1210's chorused signal, OR the Eventide Signal OR BOTH OR (In other words the delay repeats will include the chorus and harmonizer sounds in it's repeats, where If we didn't do this all that would happen is an echo of the original amp signal, and the Reverb (PCM-80 in Mix 2) can also be reverberating the Dry signal, Chorus TC 1210, and The H8000FW or the combination with the dry signal)

This multi-layered approach allows the rig to be run as a W/D/W, WD/D/WD, OR if using the hotplate on load- stereo L/R with the ability to mix in the Dry signal from Mix 1 to the L/R cabs, OR have it 100% wet, by stepping on the DRY switch to turn the dry signal off, and just running the 1210 or H8000 instead so I can have a signal feeding Mix 2.

Whew... I REALLY hope this helps to clarify it. Here is the signal diagram (I know you've seen it before), but perhaps now it'll make a bit more sense.

     :aww:

all I have to say is.. error 404 straight forward not found :D

Sounds like it is straight forward to you though.. congrats on your dream rig.

hehehehe   Thanks... As insane as I've made it, it can still accommodate the purist in us all, and go dry mono, with a Black Face Fender Super Reverb too,(or Marshall Plexi, etc...) by just stepping on a button. :D ;) BUT I have so much more fun taking that, and adding the other stuff and "big sigh of content" nay....... Nirvana, and it feels like party time.

Without a doubt liked the w/d/w far better than the 100%wet, the dry cab gives that extra warmth to the total package.

That was actually just the Dry signal from mix one being removed from mix 2, it was all W/D/W, but for- when we turned off ALL the effects AND the Dry signal, then it was only the center cab. The 100% wet thing Bob was talking about was also W/D/W, when switching out the dry signal from mix 1 into mix 2 but if using a hotplate on load then it is stereo, and the dry center image can be removed completely making it REALLY 100% wet, BUT with the ability to mix in the dry signal via the Dry button, into the L and R stereo cabs as well.

Did that make sense? I'm getting sleepy.
