My birthday was in December 2022 and since then I’ve been looking for a new guitar. I had my heart set on some kind of Ibanez AZ ( I have an AZ47P1 that I adore) and scoured Reverb almost every night for the right model AZ.
The other day, I took a trip to Brian’s Guitars, which is a high-end guitar shop in Cheshire Connecticut. Brian’s specializes mostly in custom shop PRS guitars, and a few other high-end makes like Mayones, Tom Anderson, Suhr, but they also have a lot of used stuff too. I played maybe 7 guitars while I was there, but one really spoke to me and I bought it. And the weird part is, I don’t love how it looks. I’m not into black guitars. But it played Soooooo darn well that I just had to get it. Its my Birthday present to myself and isn’t an Ibanez.
It is however a handmade Japanese shred stick called a Caparison Dellinger. I don’t know a ton about Caparison as I’ve only played them a handful of times. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I thought that in the mid 90’s, they were ghostbuilding for Jackson and their guitars were actually better. So Jackson cut ties and Caparison was born. I know Rob Marcello and the guys from
Killswitch Engage play them, but that’s about where my knowledge ends.
As for the guitar itsself, the bridge humbucker is loud and harmonics are effortless. It’s literally never been easier to tap harmonics (which I do lots of). It has options for split coil (straty sounds) and it has two single coil pickups sandwiched into the spot where the neck humbucker would normally be. Even at 24 frets, the SC-sized neck humbucker sounds full and fat.
The neck is a comfortable D shape and so far, it plays extremely well. The clock inlays are pretty cool as well. Who here has played a Caparison? What are tour thoughts on them? Peace~
