BKP for PRS McCarty

Hi all,

So I recently acquired a PRS McCarty 58 with 57/08s. Nice pickup (very warm), but not really clear enough for me (they're muddy under high gain).

I'm going to put a BKP in the bridge. I have two Custom 24s, one with a Ceramic Nailbomb (which I love), the other with an Aftermath (which I also love, though it's more "modern" than the Nailbomb and tighter). My Les Paul Custom has an Alnico Nailbomb which sounds great too, but not quite as good as the ceramic version.

I want the MC58 to be able to play metal well, but also to retain some of that lovely warmth of the 57/08s. I was considering another C-Bomb (as despite the ceramic magnet they are very warm pickups with lots of character), but thinking I should go for something different. Maybe VHIIs? Do they do the chug well though? What about Rebel Yells?

I should point out that I had a Holydiver in my old Suhr and didn't like it at all.

Cheers,

-C

sorry i dont have a suggestion, but what do you like about the nailbomb over the holy diver, considering they're so close in output?

What kind of metal do you want to play with it? I was going to suggest a Rebel Yell.

The Nailbomb had much more clarity and tightness. The Holydiver just sounded "massive" but a bit muddy to me.

Progressive metal a la Opeth, but I like pickups with really tight bass (though perhaps not as tight as the Aftermath!).

I got a set of Rebel Yell's coming friday. They're going in a Suhr Modern to do the same style of music. I'll let you know what I think when I get them running. It's mahog neck/back with a maple top just to let you know.

I've got alnico nailbombs in my cu22, love em, super clear in a PRS right across the range of clean, blues and filth, I like big thick clear bass ala muse and these fit my PRS perfect. Dunno about a McCarty though so I s'pose this is no help.

Yeah, to be honest I'm gravitating towards the Nailbombs as (a) they're what I know and (b) I know they can do massive, tight modern tones well but also retain warmth so you can get vintage tones if you want.

Anyone got any Cold Sweats? Was also considering those.

Painkillers.
I second this. You know you already like BKP ceramics, personally I like this one better than the C-Bomb, a little less bright, great tone and all the chug you'll need for prog metal.
