Call Wade at motor city and describe what you want the pickup to sound like, he will wind it for you and tweak it until your happy.

The only problem is how I would explain him. Unless he already knows how cbomb sounds.

I would think he would, I know if I was a custom builder I would check out what everyone has out there.

Have you tried Warpigs? They have some serious low-mid grind, especially the alnico ones. The ceramic ones have it too, but the mids are overall a little smoother.

I have a set of c-pigs. Too much low end.

the c-pigs do have a lot of bass. The a-pigs definitely have more pronounced vocal-like mids with more pronounced growl/grind in the low mids so they're not as scooped and bassy as the c-pig. a-pigs may still have more bass than you'd like, but they fit your description better than the c-pigs.

anderson pickups are hifi, and almost scooped. def not what your looking for.

to be honest, seems like the warpigs would suit your needs pretty good....

If by chance he doesn't know the Warpig, (though Id say he does as he makes the Nuke pickup which is similar), just describe to him all of the qualities you want in your pickup. Maybe starting with a ceramic Nuke would suit you.

If he doesn't nail it the first time hes happy to continue tweaking the wind. it could be a lengthy process but in the end you'll have a no compromise pickup wound for exactly what you want out of it.

+1. I dig my Alnico 5 Warpig a lot. The amount of bottom end is perfect and is super tight. I used to be a die hard Ceramic magnet guy and recently I have gotten away from them and been using Alnico 5s again. I have the Warpig and a Motor City Solution that both have Alnico mags and I love them both.

says you.

they're not scooped. more like other pickups are spiked.

Anderson makes some of the best sounding guitars on the planet, and the pickups are definantly a part of the picture.

None of those warpig videos sound anything like what I'm after.

Wade offered a custom ceramic Afwayu with some added mids. I just listened to Lugo's shootout &, while he & I have totally different approach dialing & miking amps, I clearly preferred Afwayu-Herbert sound to anything else in that shootout. I think I'm gonna try Wade's suggestion.

maybe even a painkiller due to the larger ceramic magnet but it adds alot of high mids as well, Are you looking to thicken up the guitar with the low mids? as the CS and C-bomb already pack a pretty big ceramic low mid.

The painkiller I've already owned. Found it lacking some low end & too much high mids. I want more of that "brown" sound, so yes more low mids, but no more other stuff is what I'm after.

If you going for a type of " Brown Sound", why not try the VHII? The higher output you go, generally speaking, the more mid focused the pickup is going to be. There are exceptions to this rule of course, but it sounds like you should be moving in a lower output direction.

Then you will see why I switched over to them from c-bombs ;) :D .

anderson guitars are amazing I'm sure, I never doubted that. But yes, of what I've tried and owned, they are very hi-fi and have a scooped feel to them (the pickups that is) but not in a bad way. I'm sure they compliment the anderson guitars, as that's probably the goal.

Is yours custom or stock? What guitar did you put it in?

Well, it's on order. This will go in my 2nd NT-II & hopefully stay in there permanently. This and c-bomb should make me happy if it turns out what I want it to be.
