Black Sabbath's "13"

The first 5 tracks are just prefect . Next 2 ok . Then last song is amazing . The original version of just 8 tracks was perfect and made senes. 4 bonus tracks are not bad . Just not as good as the 8

I think the big issue was the production. It's very badly brickwalled, as is the norm with Ruck Rubin.

IIRC Ozzy, Geezer and Tony have all said that they didn't enjoy working with Rubin. I know Tony was annoyed that Rubin insisted on using vintage Laneys instead of his signature heads.

Solid final album in my book. I didn't notice or appreciate it until now, but the final track "Dear Father" ends with the rain and bell that their debut album opened with. I'd say that's a good way to finish things. The closure hits stronger now that Ozzy's gone. Shame Ward wasn't on the album though.

I for one love that record. The songs, the production, everything. It is a shame not to have Bill Ward on it but Brad Wilk did a great job.

How the fuck did he have the balls to tell Iommi what to do? I mean personally I would prefer he use a KLIPP like on Master of Reality, but it's Tony Iommi. The proper response is yes sir Mr. Iommi.

He didn’t use them . Rick had him try but Tony said no way

I wonder if the church bell was at theme of song 8 when it was originally 8 songs

First time they tuned below standard as well (I think).

Didn't realize BW wasn't on the album, bummer, but it's still great in my mind.

good album, but I thought every song kinda "felt" the same. They seemed to fall in to the "sabbath is a doom band" and just went with that formula. I never considered them a doom band. Yes doomy moments, but it was the fact that they went all over the place with each album that made them great.. 13 didn't have that for me

Yeah, it was what gave them such legs. Actual variety. They sounded on 13 like the many bands that took one aspect of Sabbath’s catalog and made it their whole sound (basically most doom bands 😂).
