He can play, but he rehashes a lot of the same licks. I like that pentatonic slide up hammer on thing he does. He throws it in a lot.

His FB page is weird. Every picture has a filter on it. He must be hiding his age and wrinkles.

His age was Blades main line of attack. He always said he was a couple years from 60. That dude would flip when Blades struck out at his age. It was really strange seeing those two attack each other non stop for months. Over what? nobody knows.

Just from the board itself I'd say that's John John...

Dude's a sick ripper man, talk about innovation in the realm of "surfing" - superstar for sure. Love that kid.

Oh, this is a music forum - riiiiiiiiiiight

Aren't you from some frozen arctic part of Canada? You know surfers? John John is very good.
I travel all over the world to surf dude, and oversee and fund several shaping businesses. I love surfing more than anything. Used to be a WESC competitor along with all the other comps, and we as "extreme skiers" actually have something else in common - if we're not going to Portillo in the off-months, we surf. Weird eh? And oddly enough, Vancouver Island's "Tofino" district (about a 6-8 hour commute from Whistler along with a ferry ride) has monster waves in the winter, and small mushburgers in the summer. I just don't get on well with wetsuits - but in a pinch, sure, I'll take the seal skin and cold water to get my groove on... But having done the coldwater scene, I found for a couple extra hun, I could fly my ass to the Hawaiian Islands and surf warm water for a couple weeks just the same...but warmer :)

Jon Pyzel, Matt Kazuma Kinoshita, Wooster, Biolos, Hayden (Cox), Darren (Handley), Sir Kingsley........we're all in the same group of nutbars who work the foam and surf to live and live to surf. I'm 1-2 years away (give or take) to wrapping my life up here in Whistler and moving to a tropical environ where I plan on just shaping, surfing, and easy living. Hard to say if my warehouse of amps and guitars is coming with me - depends on the location... Humidity and saline air don't do amps and guitars any favours. But having just come back from 3 years in Costa Rica (to surf) I know what I want to be doing - and I know all too well the golden handcuffs of western civilization are just that - they're fucking handcuffs

Ride on Bro!!! And ya, JJF is sick, but my guy is definitely Toledo - christ they're all good - Medina was so close to getting in there and still has it - but Filipe (Toledo) has been putting in the time. He's going to be John's biggest rival. Also watch out for the QS cats - some heavy talent in there too. And then the free surf scene - Machado is as cool as they get - and the lines that CRAIG ANDERSON :worship: - throws down are just incredible.

So ya, I surf. And plan on surfing daily till I'm dead in the next couple years. It's just that good

I have been back in the san fran bay area for a while now and the water is FREEZING!!! I mean COLD!! I used to surf in LA, and head down to San Diego on the weekends. Mt friends surfed and skated. I skated more than surfed, but my friends were and still are die hard surfers. I saw Machado in San Clemente a few times, that guy RIPS!! If I lived in an area that had warm water and waves, I would surf daily most likely, as long as the waves were fun. Unless its mushy, grab a long board and have fun. Its just amazing being out in the ocean.

lol. I honestly didn’t know anything about the Blades thing. I guess I hit the nail on the head about all of his pics on FB being filtered. Haha.

Ya man, warm water's where it's at - even though I know many hardcore nutjobs that love the cold... Whether it's off the north-eastern seaboard of the US or some cats finding their happy barrels on beaches covered in snow up the coast and into Canada. Nuts. I mean, it's "kinda neat" having done it before where I'm walking down snow covered stairs in a full on wetty with booties, gloves, and head wrap. I'm actually warm!! They've even got some now with battery packs that electrically heat the suit (low voltage obviously), but the deal is - this is a lot of investment to get out there and groove in bitchin' cold water. I had icicles hanging off my nose and soul patch 10+ years ago when I used to hit the winter heavies off Tofino/Long Beach. You know, you're surfing in frigid waters but they're still above 0C - but the air?? Man, I was out somedays it was around -10 or -15C, the air mixed with wind, torture on any exposed skin. AND the weight and "hassle" factor of the suits. I just added it up and said fuck it, buy tickets to Baja, Mexico, Hawaii and surf in shorts - done.

Diego has some talent, but Clemente has got a whack of snarl - Kolohe and Igarashi are up there now too, in addition to the Huntington crew. Great stretch man, get up get out get barrelled and life will forever be changed. Skateboarding is one thing - it's awesome - but it's still terra-firma. Getting shacked in the green room at high velocity when time just slows down to another dimension is like an alien experience of the good kind, not the anal/belly-button probing bad kind.... Just to be clear.

Damn, now I'm back to thinking surfing. Shit. This is gonna get expensive real quick

"Honey, what do you mean you need to 'split for a few days of realignment', where are you going....you're TAKING YOUR SURF BAG WITH YOU YOU BASTARD!!!!!!"

Doesn't Oregon have a strange wave that is somehow below sea level and forms a bowl or pit and people surf it? What about that insane wave 100 miles off of the coast of san diego!!

-they should of tried to surf the TSUNAMI instead of picking up fish
