Blocked trem vs tune-o-matic

Have any of you ever replaced a vintage style tremolo bridge with a tune-o-matic?
Any thoughts on the differences between the two?

There's a fair amount of work involved with making that transition. The biggest issue (in my mind) would be re-working the neck angle to adjust for the increased height of the TOM.

It may be easier to just block the current trem.

Yeah, that would be a lot of work. Better to just block the trem or by a new body or guitar with a tuneomatic if that's what you prefer.
