I have a Celestion Alnico Blue that's making a buzzing sound when I turn my combo up high. It's a 20 watt tube amp, but may actually push a bit more wattage than 20 watts. The speaker isn't broken-in yet... Is this sound normal? It only makes the buzzing sound when I hit cords... It's not perpetual.

Kinda sounds like it, 15w speaker/20w amp, is that paired with another speaker? shouldn't be any buzzing noises, try another speaker/cab yet?

I removed the speaker to see if it was something in the cabinet, but it's definitely the speaker. It only happens when it's pushed hard on clean settings, so maybe it's just getting stressed? I have not tried it with another cabinet yet, but I will. I pushed on the the cone, and I don't feel or hear any scraping of the voice coil.

It's blown. :aww:

I had heard the blue could handle up to 25 watts... Wrong! If the magnet is the same size, then I should be able to get it re-coned with a gold cone, upping the capacity to 50 watts.

To anyone with a 20 watt or higher tube amp... If you're deciding on the Celestion Alnico Blue vs Celestion Alnico Gold... Get the Gold!
