Does anyone know how many Blue face VH4's are around?
Not the newer one's but the older one style.

If the serial numbers are sequential, I'd guess around 50 blue face VH4S amps, based on my serial number and its date of production. I believe I've seen at least serial number 50 (0970050, I think) for blueface VH4 mono heads, too. If the numbers are sequential, then I'm pretty sure the VH4S and the VH4 heads were numbered separately, because I've seen blueface VH4 heads with higher serial numbers than mine VH4S head, but the VH4 head was made in the prior year.

I want one! It's the only other head I want :)
I would sell my silver face or trade for one in a second

I'm always on the lookout for another one, as well. If anyone reading this has one they'd consider selling, pm me. I'm serious about buying, and I've done the international shipping thing before, too. I know they're not cheap. I over-paid for one already, I'll probably over-pay for yours too!

woah hey now! You already have one, let me get one first then I will help you find a second lol.
Whats the difference between the mono and stereo VH4?

Mono heads have a single, 4-tube power section (ostensibly rated at 100 watts, but depends on the tube type you use, etc.). The stereo heads have two independent, 2-tube power sections (again, ostensibly rated at 50 watts each), with separate volume, mix, presence, and depth controls for each side. The VH4S also as a series and parallel loop for each side, and two extra 12ax7 tubes (one for the second phase inverter, and one for an additional buffer for the extra loops).

EDIT: sorry! Every man for him self when it comes to looking for bluefaced VH4s!

Running stereo effect like ping-pong delay or wet/dry (one side with no effects and the other side with delay, 'verb, etc.). The ability to set the depth and presence separately is awesome (I run one side with them practically off, and the other side with them around noon).

Ahhh so its kinda like running 2 different heads.
Thats damn cool!
I have a Herbert and a VH4 both mono. I am waiting to get another cab and A/B-Y them together.
It should be fun to mix them up like that.

To get that ping pong effect with effects they would have to be plugged into the effects loop rather than up front like I run my effects.

I 'll add myself to the list of those who want an ol' school Blue face VH4S
In the UK and have Cash ready

I am very happy with the Silver VH4 i got, , but really want a Blue face (old script)VH4S too

But outside of the color of the faceplate, are there any intrinsic differences in the actual circuit? Or is it simply a cosmetic thing?

To my knowledge, it's merely cosmetic... But I may be wrong.

I had a VH4S, and actually prefer the response of the VH4. To each their own.

Have a great morning Gents.

I like the VH4S a bit more, but it much prefers going to two separate cabs, not a single stereo cab IMHO.

The 90s bluefaces have an extra preamp tube, which I believe impacts the 1st channel only. It has WAY more gain than the other two VH4s I've played. It's a glorious, fat and dynamic overdrive that's heaven with a Strat. Maybe not the best clean channel, though. The rest of the amp is darker, less aggressive, and less gain than the new ones I've played. Most probably would prefer the newest VH4 to the older ones.

I want a blue face simply because it's beautiful looking.
I am very happy with my VH4 but I still want a blue face!

I dug it when I had one. But I like the response and attack of the mono version better, interestingly enough. So it goes - they're magic and everyone loves their Diezels

Agreed: they're all incredible amps. Cheers to Peter for making such a line of amps!

Damn it! First chance I have in weeks to play and I lose an EL34BHT. Guess I'll make the switch to the JJ KT77s now.

Bumping this just because I'm somewhat interested in the original question as to how many VH4(S) amps were made between 94 and at least mid 98 (which I think is all the Bluefaced ones).

They were mostly Blueface in that time. ;)

I am also interested in production numbers from this time period.

Mines mid-98 with a number in the 40s. If the serial number were sequential, there probably weren't too many more than that for VH4S heads. I think I've seen a 97 VH4 mono head with a number in the 50s. So there's at least ~100 total.

Mono #54 is out there, I know as a fact. So there is close to a hundred of them at least, if not more.
