Can you guys educate me on the difference of the early 101Bs compared to those after I believe it was 2001? I can't imagine the early Red channels didn't have enough gain but that is what it says...revised to have more gain.
Are there other differences?
Do the early ones really lack gain?
Can the early ones easily be modded by say someone proficient with a solder iron?

Thanks!

google "Marvel Mod" and you'll find the info you seek.

short version: it's just one resistor and cap soldered in parallel across one resistor on the board. it adds more Red gain but to me also changes the tone a bit; makes it tighter. when i play chunky metalish stuff, i use the post-2004 higher gain but with the Gain knob turned down pretty low.

Marvel Mod is a way to make it switchable, for great flexibility. there's other mods that can be done too, like adding resistor & cap to a resistor on the board that affects both Red and Blue, and i modded the Structure circuit on mine to be switchable between stock and the values from the 20th XTC / XTC Classic. brightens the amp up nicely.

or if you're really a mod junkie, you can pretty much rebuild the amp, like Setneck did to his. :) look for his posts in the Bogner sub-forum here or on the official Bogner forum boards.

I have a 2001 and my friend has a 2005. I believe they added a board after 2004? I have plenty of gain on my 2001!

Still...the Marvel Mod looks pretty neat and I may try it in mine. Love what I have though at this point.
