This amp is just killer, favorite of all the 20 or so amps I've owned (keep finding new favorites   ). Made a few clips. Threw in a clip of my 2nd favorite all time amp...see if you can guess it :D

What is with the cardboard?

I liked the second one better.

2nd one ripps.. great sound.. i guess one of these will be an xtc and one kemper :D

Sounds like a boogie Mark series to me.

Bingo, we have a winner! Second clip is a mark III bluestripe head.
Both heads run into a splawn straight 4x12 with greenbacks.

Fuck it I give. I'm getting a Boogie.

Damn blind tests

Wow, every single response likes the Boogie better than the 20th XTC.

Looks like an opportunity to save around $2k on one's next rig........why pay $4.5k for a new 20th XTC when you can get a new or used MK series Boogie for under $2k?.....

The mark III is a great amp no doubt, love it to death but I don't make gear choices based soley on other peoples preferences and favorites...those decisions are mine, for me to ultimately decide based on my wants needs and likes. I prefer the Bogner regardless of price. That and I would never pay $4.5k for this amp new but at $2900 it has provided plenty of smiles and good times in just the 3 months I've had it :D

I goofed up the volume on the xtc clip and it is not near as loud as the boogie clip, although both were quite loud in the room.

Also at $800 the Mark III was the best bang for the buck gear purchase I've ever made.

I'm not saying the Boogie is better by any means. It's just interesting that every response preferred it.

That is only one clip of each amp as well - clearly, both of these amps can be dialed in a myriad of ways and to get a number of different types of guitar tones, so I agree to make a decision based solely on the above clips would be shortsighted.

I agree, I am quite intrigued that everyone preferred the Boogie!

In all fairness, the Boogie sounds like it was captured quite a bit better as well. The Bogner sounded like it was in the other room where as the Boogie sounded like you were right in front of it.

Damn, I typed in Mark series but didn't submit it for fear of being burned by a "this is actually a modeler" response.   Cool clips!

I don't think you'd want a Bogner XTC to sound like that. Sounds nothing like how I'd use the xtc.

I agree that something sounds almost tin can about the recordings. The bogner almost sounds like the treble and presence are on 10 , the mids around 3 and the bass around 3.

RSRD funny you say that, I tried to show how heavy the amp could get and I'm more of a hardrock kind of guy... trying to cater to all the guys around here who like the heavies   I'm far from a metal player although I fiddle with different styles...I'm the kind of guy who NEVER downtunes (not that there is anthing wrong with it :D ) and never even drop the low E to D. Strickly an E tuning dude   The XTC clip was with red channel set to modern with a very modest setting of 10 oclock on the gain knob.

Zoom hq3hd not the greatest recording device... but gives you an idea. Actually treble at 1 oclock, mids at 12 oclock, bass at 9 oclock, gain at 10 oclock with excursion set to M and presence at 1 oclock.

i just turned down the vol of the second vid, and turned the first one up, and while they sound similar, the bogner had a very tubby midrange that i liked better, but now that i own a mark myself i know its just a slider away from being there.. im always surprised how similar you can dial in different amps. i can make my markIII very marshally.

I'd like to hear you playing your style of guitar and the way you usually dial in your amps. THen throw a sm57 into pro tools and post.

You got me on the settings I never would have guessed that. So which of the amps do you prefer to play? Which feels and sounds better to your naked ear? And which has more options?
