Bogner 20th XTC and mark III clips & Added new clip for RSRD

RSRD funny you say that, I tried to show how heavy the amp could get and I'm more of a hardrock kind of guy... trying to cater to all the guys around here who like the heavies I'm far from a metal player although I fiddle with different styles...I'm the kind of guy who NEVER downtunes (not that there is anthing wrong with it ) and never even drop the low E to D. Strickly an E tuning dude The XTC clip was with red channel set to modern with a very modest setting of 10 oclock on the gain knob.

Whats tubes you running in the MK III? I agree the Boogie seeme to be louder and captured better in the vid.

Winged C el34's in the outside sockets and C 6l6's in the inner 2 sockets. Sounds equally good with Ruby power tubes I had in before these. chinese preamp tubes.

The volume discrephency is due to me accidentally switching the mic gain switch on the HQ3HD to low gain whereas the Boogie clip was on the auto setting.

I'm a bit of a Boogie fanboy and I've owned Bogners. They both have their strengths. A Mark III sure does have a lot of preamp gain and just rips for leads. But there's plenty of things an XTC does with a different taste.

If I were playing in a cover band I would say I'd use the Bogner for most of the rhythm work, but mark III would get most of the lead duty. The Blue channel of the XTC is really sweet for mid gain stuff, but in some instances the R2 of the III isn't too shabby.

I'd like to hear you playing your style of guitar and the way you usually dial in your amps. THen throw a sm57 into pro tools and post. You got me on the settings I never would have guessed that. So which of the amps do you prefer to play? Which feels and sounds better to your naked ear? And which has more options?

I will get a clip up some time playing something more hard rock, maybe a clip comparing the 20th to the 101b I've got in the classifieds. I prefer to play the 20th but still find myself plugging in the mark III. I like the sound and feel of the 20th better. Now if I had to choose between my 101b and the mark III the boogie wins all day for me, granted the blue channel is great for mid gain but with some tweaking the boogie does mid gain very well imho.

Now I will say that the blue channel feel is better on the 101b and it seems to have slightly more gain than the 20th but they sound very close. But the blue on the 101b is more fun to play. The cool thing with the 20th is the red channel can be tweaked with lower gain to come very close to the blue channel. So for me the red channel has been greatly improved upon. It's so good it makes me giddy. That and its way less compressed and therefore WAY more dynamic than the 101b. Never played the Classic so can't compare the red channels. Part of the reason why this clip sounds so heavy and gainy is because I was hitting the strings so hard as I mentioned earlier the gain was set a 10 oclock. Reminds me of my VHT Ultra Lead in that respect.

Unbelievable how much preamp gain the mark III has, I certainly agree on that...most gain on an amp I've played is the 6505 with the mark III just slightly behind it. This clip was done with the preamp volume (gain) set on 3 and the drive set on 10.
