I've gotten a few answers already, but to anyone that's experienced both, what's your take?

I've had the 101b for about two years and it's served me very well. In order to take the 20th Anne. plunge, I'd have to unload my 101b AND Twin Jet. I'm willing to do this if the 20th is really a huge improvement over the 101b, but you can probably understand why I'm hesitant!

Edit: I know I posted a similar thread a little ways back. Guess this is sort of a "would you do it" post.

Yes...

I would not get rid of my TJ for a 20XTC but it is because of my taste in music. If you like the 101b and that is your tone then yes the up to the 20th is well worth it. I would not hesitate to say the 20th XTC is much better than the 101B's before them. I base this on the following so I am not just making statements.

1) The 20th 101B has a boost for the Plexi Mode which is really cool.
2) The 20th 101B seemed more open and dynamic to me
3) The 20th blue channel has a bit more gain with the same great tone
4) The 20th red channel was much less compressed and much more usable for me
5) The 20th overall clean channel was better I thought
6) The 20th Excursion control worked much better and made much more of a difference to my ear.

I am sure there are other things but those are what pop into my head.

For me the TJ Channel 1 covers my clean with guitar volume, and great rhythm tones that can be like the blue channel on the XTC (not exactly but actually a little more open and less compressed, albeit a bit tighter) and Channel 2 gives me an aggressive lead channel and or a singing lead channel similar to the XTC 20th red channel but with much more gain. Enough about me though - simple answer for your question IMHO is yes you will love it and sounds like a good plan for you...

Best of luck with it as well!!

Decisions, decisions

The 101B doesn't have a Plexi boost. The 20X does though.

If you want a more open, dynamic, tighter XTC that is a breeze to dial in and has a more of a Marshall bite to balance the spongy XTC gain then you'd be a happy camper with the 20thXTC.

Whether that's worth selling off 2 amps...I suppose that would depend on how much you play the XTC vs. TJ...

My post was very misleading, all the points were in favor of the 20th XTC not the 101B, fixed now.

Decisions. Not always easy!

I spend the majority of my time with the XTC; I don't get along with the Twin Jet quite as well at low volumes, and I don't get to turn up much where I live. It sounds like the 20th is exactly what I'm looking for, though. I'm going to search around a little more. There's a chance I could keep the Uber and still get the 20th, but when it comes down to it, a livlier version of the XTC with a little more depth would probably set me straight by itself. Would you describe the 20th as more throaty than the 101b?

Thanks for the replies. Keep 'em coming!

The TJ at higher volume crushes!

I let all 3 of them romp today. Been setting up stuff in the man cave, swapping speakers, getting some Midi rack gear out. The 20X is dialed in great on the H30/V30 412 stuffed Mills. The Uber is smoking on both channels and running through the Mills 412 with 2-V30/2-K100. My widlcard though and the funnest amp to play is the 20th Shiva since changing to 6550's from 88's. Removed the reverb pan and tube too. Running it through a Bogner 412 with V30 with the master and channel master about 1:00. It flat out just rips all of it a new asshole! Definitely getting wood from the 20Shiva.

Got a quad of 30's and K-100's delivering Saturday for the Mills/Twin Jet per your recommendation. If you guys need Celestions, noone can beat Avatar speakers prices.

Who is the guitar player Tim? That was righteous. Pretty much reminds me of myself.... :D
