Anyone run their Ecstasy with the Helios cab or similar (e.g. Friedman cab with V30 on bottom, GB on top)?

I'm playing an XTC Classic with a couple of cabs;

-Mesa Recto 212 with a Weber mix which kills for home/recording tones but doesn't quite have the bite for live playing
-Marshall 412 with H30 anniversary and CL80 mix (the Mark Cameron combo). Lots of cut and bite/brightness but not quite the right speakers for the Bogner.

I'm thinking V30s on bottom with either Greenbacks, Heritage H30s or G12-65s on top.

I should also point out that I know V30s are popular for a reason. They cut like no other and can sound great with some amps but I've always found them unpleasant, which is why I don't want to go all V30.

The V30/GB combo would only handle 100 watts... If you are cranking the Ecstasy , that might not be the best choice Creamback 65s might be a better alternative. I have struggled with the same issue, I want greenbacks with my Ecstasy classic to mix with my 412ST which is all V30s. My problem is my other cab is a diezel front loader, I had 4 greenies in it at one time but it was too bright and I dont want to invest in another cab. I have been running the diezel loaded up like an uberkab and running it along with my 412st and the results are fantastic.

Yep, greens do sound great with the Ecstasy but the power rating doesn't quite hold up to a 120w amp.. And for some reason most people don't seem to be happy with the 65w Creambacks. I'm wondering if going all g12-65s would be too dark with that amp? Or even Heritage H30 (55Hz) mixed with the V30s. That would make the cab rated at 120 watts which still might be risky if pushing it really hard.

The Classic is a great amp but I feel like I'm not getting the most out of it by not having the proper cab for it.

How loud are you realistically going to run the Bogner anyway? Why would a 100 watt cab not be enough? Are you going to run it wide open? At band volume that Bogner is not getting anywhere near 120 watts output. Old Marshall Superleads can run at peaks of 150-170 watts when wide open and will run fine through 100 watt cabs all day long. I would give the cream back 75 some consideration. All the clips I've heard it has a nice present upper midrange without being obnoxiously bright, which could be good for a Bogner.

I think your marshall cab would be fine with the right speakers. My 412st with V30s is the "perfect" matching cab but I still want to swap out two of the V30s to something else, just havent figured out what yet although I am leaning toward Creamback 65s.

I had a Bogner OS212 with V30s which I swapped out for Creambacks, one 65 and one 75. I sold it but it wasnt because of the speakers, I actually quite liked that combo, the tone and clarity was better than the v30s in the same cab, I just have never bonded well with anything other than 4x12s or open back combos.

One thing I would add though is that the combo of a front loader and a rear loader seems like magic to me so far... The 412st by itself is great but I do notice the "blanket effect" people often talk about with bogners. Adding in the front loader adds some tightness and in your faceness that is lacking with just the 412st.

A quad of 25 watt greenbacks is fine with the Ecstasy. You won't be peaking the power, so it'll be okay.

I've run my 100 Marshall 4x12 many times with the 101b.

G12 65s can be bright or dark, depending on which version you get. But adjusting the treble/presence fixes that. I've had 3 different 65 cabs, all a little different in the high end..but I found that adding high end to the darker version matched up with the brighter/Marshall labeled 65s. They have plenty top end IMO.

As hideous as most think they are, I run my XTC currently with a Bogner 212CB with a pair of G12T75's in there. It really sounds great. I am interested in swapping one of the 75s out with a V30. Seems to be a good combo for this head as some have told me and from what I have heard.

My favorite speaker combo is v30's on bottom and greenbacks on top .
I have I trace Elliot cab with v30's on bottom and greenbacks on top .
I run it with my Ecstacy and my Helios .
It sounds great on either !
I have cranked it with no problems .

Thanks for the feedback. I have some 75s that I may try now. Had them loaded in the Marshall before I bought the Ecstasy and I actually liked them a lot. Might try my buddy's Ubercab too next time I make it out his way.
So many speakers out there..still want to try Lynchbacks, V-Type, the Heritage H30s. I played a whole room full of amps back to back earlier this year and honestly, they didn't sound all that different once we got them loud but switching between 412s made a massive difference. Much more than the amps themselves.

Totally great idea. I've done it & it sounds killer! Do it!

Honestly, I'm sure either all GBs or GBs on top/V30s on bottom will be fine. I've used all GB cabs with my XTC Classic no problem at gig levels. But I also think the all V30 bogner cabs sound great, just need some volume.
