Bogner for Thrash Metal?

So, I've been curious about Bogners for a while now. I'd like to get one in my stable, but I'm having trouble figuring out which would be best for me needs. I play in a modern thrash/crossover band, and I really dig modded Marshall tones, but also love 5150 type stuff.

I've been looking at both the Helios 100 and the Uberschall Twin Jet. My other guitarist had a Rev Blue Uber and while I loved the tone, the way the low end reacted didn't gel with me. A little round, not immediate enough. I've heard the Twin Jet is tighter, and also has a marshall-esque channel 1 vs having a clean, which I do not need.

On the flip side, the Helios seems to be vintage modded Marshall heaven, but I'm worried it will be too "80's" in the high gain setting. Too thick, dark, scoopy sounding. For reference, my two main amps are a Diezel Herbert, and a Splawn Quick Rod. I also have a Friedman JJ100, Ceriatone Chupacabra 50 and JCM 800 2203KK in the stable, among others, so the Bogner is a want and not a need. Just want some opinions.

I have never played the Helios.

I have played the Shiva, Rev 2 and Twin Jet.

Personally, with the right player and settings all three of these can absolutely pull off Modern thrash metal. I would go with the Twin Jet personally because it is indeed tight. I do love Bogner amps but do not overlook Peters amps. From the clips I have heard, thrash metal is in that guys DNA.

You've got it covered already with the Ceriatone, Splawn and KK, in spades!

I've had the Helios. Yes, it does 80's very well, but isn't that THE sound of crossover/thrash? I'd say the Ceriatone, Splawn, or KK would cover DRI all day long. Hell, you have so much overlap and redundancies with the amps you already have, I'd pick one, and sell the rest!

I'm a creature of wants, not needs. Come on man! Haha. I'm not asking if the Bogners can do thrash better than my current amps, but just something that can hang and be a different flavor.

The Rev Blue has become one of my all time favorite amps for thrash/modern metal tones. Running KT77s in mine with Chinese 12ax7B pres. I totally get what you don't like about the low end reaction though. I play with some pretty fast responding pups and clean boost the front of the amp with a ts9, and for my tastes it's sheer perfection for tight thrashy rhythm stuff and for raunchy death metal riffage. I just love the bright cutting tone it gets but it does so without being harsh or grating, just has a certain smoothness to the tone, but still Uber aggressive. Does it the way only a Bogner can with that unique "chewy" grind in the mids. I know that's a weird adjective to use, but it's the best one that comes to mind.

i play thrash and have a rev blue uber,
on my amp you can turn the bass all the way down and have plenty of low end for that style.
it wouldn't be my first choice for that though.

I watched you vid, cool tune I like it.
liked the tone the guy with the les paul was getting.

I think anything that stays tight can do thrash. What about an ecstacy? I can't afford a real one but I have a modular Salvation xtacy preamp and I can ride that on the blue channel setting with structure on and a nudge from an EQ or BOSS OD-1 clone to push the mids and it is thrash all day long. Personally, if I could afford it, I would just grab a real ecstacy as the blue channel is almost what I wish my JCM800 stock was! I think the key to those early or classic thrash tones is the fact that they are tightening things up with EQ or boosts.

Right, I agree with what you're saying for sure. The Herbert wasn't meant for thrash, really, but it's tight as hell with a boost and works perfectly.

I guess the reason I posed this question is, after a lot of research and reading, people tend to not describe the ecstasy of shiva as tight amps for the most part. My Friedman is tight, but it doesn't really punch on the palm mutes like the Splawn, Herbert, Pittbull, Etc. I want to make sure it delivers a tight, immediate feeling gut punch.

I agree 800 and a boost is tough to beat, but he already has that. 800kk does that stuff all day.

Ecstasy, hands down.
