you have the 2203KK and you are looking for a thrash amp...????

My dude, did you read any of the posts after that?

Just looking to collect all the flavors. My bases are well past covered, but I like to try new things.

I played a bogner XTC...
Through V30 and GB...
I don't think that this amp can do thrash...
great lead tones...smooth...but not aggressive...
And I used an EMG 81 too...

I haven't tested the helios...

If you want a different flavour, buy a Mesa.

I have a 2 Channel Triple rectifier. Not really tight enough for thrash.

My other guitarist has a Mark V, that sounds great but I don't want to step on his TOnEs :D

Ecstasy will totally do Thrash. Just have to set Ch 3 right. Presence needs to be fairly high, choose the right pre voicing and a tight to medium speaker excursion. The louder you get, the tighter the excursion setting.

Your JJ100 should be able to do thrash all day long man. But yeah, getting more heads is always fun ;)

Can a good player plug into a Bogner and play thrash? Sure why not. It's really up to the player not the amp. However, Bogners aren't the amps I think of when I think thrash metal tones. There's other amps for less money that IMHO are better suited for thrash tones. I know your other guitar player has a Mark V but a Mark III red or blue stripe is a total thrash machine.

How about a Peavey JSX. Believe it or not the Crate Flexwave Head gets a pretty gnarly Thrash, almost DM tone and used, they’re super cheap.

I don't think any Marshall type amp can do thrash.

I have a Friedman BE100 which is awesome, but it's palm mutes are on the more subtle side than what a good thrash tone needs.

Uh?

Slayer tone is founded on a JCM800 modded.

All my favorite thrash tones are mainly Marshall type amps or Marshall amps in general. Everyone's taste differs though. For me my holy grail has always been a Scott Ian S.O.D. tone. Palm mutes for life!

Thrash tone was literally founded on Marshall amps.

Agree 1,000,000,000%. His tone on SEOD is fucking ridiculous. Absolutely brutal and vicious. I still remember hearing it for the first time in 1985 and shitting myself. :worship: :worship: :worship:

I’m glad I wasn’t around to witness that. :D

Shiva 20th would be a great fit. It has the low mid grind that’s great for thrash. Add a little EQ and a tad bit of up front OD boost and it’s pure aggression.

Yeah me too... That thick palm mute was just nuts to me. It was kind of like the chugging from For Whom the Bells Tolls but for an entire fucking album   It's my shit!

Its well known the S.O.D. tone is an 6550 loaded JCM800 boosted with a TC BLD pedal. What is less known is that his speaker of choice throughout the 80's was Rola Celestion G12-80's w/444 low resonance cone. Those speakers have a lot of low end, and if you throw enough gain and compression at them, they chug like nobody's business. A even less known fun fact; in addition to the TC BLD pedal, he also used a TC DPE (dual parametric equalizer) pedal to further shape the tone. Since the BLD was definitely in front of the amp, I'm inclined to think the DPE was in the loop. His S.O.D. tone is more scooped than any of his Anthrax tones. Probably because there was no second guitar to compete with in S.O.D, so it's a little easier to get away with a scooped tone in that scenario. And for my last fun fact; the SEOD sessions were recorded immediately after Spreading the Disease (Anthrax) in the same studio with the same gear and same setup. The difference in tone on those two records is that each session was mixed and engineered completely different. STD producer Carl Canedy tended to bury guitars in the mix (and with effects) while SEOD producer Alex Perialas mixed it how Scott wanted it; dry and in your face.

For reference, my [two] main amps are a Diezel Herbert . . .
Your avatar and this statement speak (for the most part) to everything you will need in the ultimate guitar amp. With a Diezel Herbert, pick any musical style, and it's there if you have the patience to discover it.

Ride the lightning was another one! I couldn't believe how heavy those guitar tones were the first time hearing them! Another one of my favorite tonez.
