Bogner for Thrash Metal?

Sorry, my lack of english skills have totally make me said the contrary of what I wanted to say.

I didn't mean that every Marshall type amp can't do thrash, that's obviously ridiculous because thrash is literally founded in the Marshall modded sound. I wanted to say that not every Marshall type amp can do thrash metal perfectly, as it's the case to me with my BE100 (great for Van Halen and that type of stuff, but falls a little short in aggresiveness for a thrash metal tone, at least in my book).

All my favorite thrash tones are mainly Marshall type amps or Marshall amps in general. Everyone's taste differs though. For me my holy grail has always been a Scott Ian S.O.D. tone. Palm mutes for life!

Its well known the S.O.D. tone is an 6550 loaded JCM800 boosted with a TC BLD pedal. What is less known is that his speaker of choice throughout the 80's was Rola Celestion G12-80's w/444 low resonance cone. Those speakers have a lot of low end, and if you throw enough gain and compression at them, they chug like nobody's business. A even less known fun fact; in addition to the TC BLD pedal, he also used a TC DPE (dual parametric equalizer) pedal to further shape the tone. Since the BLD was definitely in front of the amp, I'm inclined to think the DPE was in the loop. His S.O.D. tone is more scooped than any of his Anthrax tones. Probably because there was no second guitar to compete with in S.O.D, so it's a little easier to get away with a scooped tone in that scenario. And for my last fun fact; the SEOD sessions were recorded immediately after Spreading the Disease (Anthrax) in the same studio with the same gear and same setup. The difference in tone on those two records is that each session was mixed and engineered completely different. STD producer Carl Canedy tended to bury guitars in the mix (and with effects) while SEOD producer Alex Perialas mixed it how Scott wanted it; dry and in your face.
Cool info. Didn't know that about the recording sessions for those two albums being back to back. You can definitely hear the similarities in the core tone that amp was putting out on the two albums.

I have a Friedman BE100 which is awesome, but it's palm mutes are on the more subtle side than what a good thrash tone needs.

Agree 1,000,000,000%. His tone on SEOD is fucking ridiculous. Absolutely brutal and vicious. I still remember hearing it for the first time in 1985 and shitting myself. :worship: :worship: :worship:
I’m glad I wasn’t around to witness that. :D
Paul, I can reenact it for you for a case of Old Style and a burrito!

I would love a Twin Jet so that gets my vote.

Also - what about the Alchemist? Cool little amps.

This guy is on crack and even tho he owns a Friedman he can’t dial it in to do thrash.

No offense, but on a board full of metalheads you can’t say this shit with a straight face and expect anyone to take you seriously.

For real, get a 10 band and chuck it in the loop and bump some bass and mids. You’ll get there, sir.

I don’t even have an amp anymore, just a Kemper, but I can dial in thrash tones from SFG on a modded Cameron and do thrash all fuckin day.

Well, with a 10 EQ band then probably I can make it aggressive and chuggy enough for thrash, I don't know, but I'm talking with the amp on it's own which is my experience so far.

I have it dialed with the Akira Takasaki settings, which are some of the most brightest and aggressive settings of the amp. Still falls a little bit short for what I consider thrash tone.

Maybe I'm just more picky when it comes to thrash tones than other metalheads.

With the correct picking/palm muting attack, just about any high gainer can be used for thrash. Listen to Gary Holt. That motherfucker could blow your head off through a Gorilla.

so...slayer isn't thrash?

Uh?

Slayer tone is founded on a JCM800 modded.

Slayers Tone is founded on a JCM 800 With a 10 Band EQ, That's not a Modded 800.

The Kerry King signature is a Marshall JCM800 modded to have like a particular 10 Band EQ setting always on, a *beast boost* and a noise gate. That's still modded in my book.
