I've been using the Tungsol 12ax7 in the first 3 positions of my Ecstasy 101b, and like them. It's time to retube, and I was wondering what you other Bogner guys have been using in your preamp slots.

I'm also going to go back to the SED Winged C EL34s for my output tubes. I think I have EH El34s in there now.

A while ago I went through a tube "phase" and spent a lot of time finding what I like the most. I ended up with all Chinese; they sounded and felt the best. It took about 12 to find 6 I really liked, but well worth it.

=C= EL34s for me too!

I can't comment directly on =C='s 34s, but I've heard nothing but love for the brand as a whole.

And FWIW, =C= 6550s were the tubes that took my UL from being an amp that I could use to get by to an amp that I couldn't live without.

Chinese high grade for preamps through and through.

They're the biz.

Aren't there several versions of the Chinese 12ax7s?? Which ones are "the" ones to get?! And, where?

I had some Chinese tubes several years ago, and they were microphonic. . .haven't tried them since.

Bogners go with Chinese tubes like meatballs and chianti/.

Bogner uses a mix of Sovtek LPS and 2 Chinese. I've found this to be the way I like it too. The Chinese tubes go in the cathode follower positions (3/4 for XTC, 3/5 for Uber ... or vice versa  I'll have to look at my Uber).

At least thats the way it used to be.

my fish came from the factory with eight Chinese 12AX7B's

I got mainly Penta Chinese 12AX7 in my 100B, a few Penta 12AX7M in between for some thickness in the later gain stages.

Power tubes on the XTC I prefer Ruby EL34BHT over =C= actually, but that is in my 100B, could be different in a 101.

I feel like this would sound pretty good:

Tung-Sol 12ax7's (balanced and matched for PI)
Shugang 12ax7b's in the cathode followers

Winged =C= El34 for the power section..

I'll most likely be putting this in my Rev Blue

I do not like the Tung Sol pre's in my Uber (or any of my amps for that matter). They sound harsh to my ears. I have a mix of Chinese, JJ, Mullard and RFT's in mine and it sounds pretty darn good.

i have chinese in the pre and jj e34l in the power, sounds pretty good.
i also like el34 wing c.

My Uberschall:

V1 Tung-Sol RI
V2 Chinese 9th
V3 Chinese 9th
V4 JJ ECC803
V5 Chinese 9th balanced
V6 Chinese 9th balanced

V7-10 JJ E34L

As per Charley at Bogner HQ, their latest releases in the XTC and Uberschall are ALL Chinese 12AX7B. They're consistent in their sound, cheap, and readily available. In the case of the 20thA, they designed the circuitry around the Chinese 12AX7 and hence, that's what oughta be kept in there...

Again, this is straight outta Charley's mouth.
