i just found that vid on youtube and i decided to post it up to show how its possible to get gainy enough for metal

I think there's a ton of good stuff able with the Shiva... Check out the soundclips off the Bogner site for the 20thA Shiva - loaded with KT88's and quite a few upgrades to the EQ. I think it's a bomber little amp, and would likely buy one if I didn't already have the 20thA XTC w/ EL34's.

The last 2 clips kick serious serious ass m'man... The Shiva's got it going on IMHO!!

Why get an amp that can -sort of- do really high gain stuff when pushed, when there are plenty of other options in that price range and cheaper that can do high gain much better?

My take on it is this cat is looking into the Shiva for its maxed out saturation style of gain, as opposed to the typical preamp gain so many hi-gain amp manufacturers are pumpin' out nowadays. There's a helluva difference from preamp gain structure to power-tube saturation overdrive and gain... The latter is what really gives the amp its character - as I am sure you know. The Shiva's got this thing going on, I feel it when I hear it and play one - it's gritty, dirty, rockin', and almost a throwback to the times of Page and Blackmore and others of the 70's ilk. It doesn't have as good a cut through as other amps can have when totally gained out, but it does have flavor, and that's something missing in a lot of other all-gain amps IMHO.

Just my 2 cents.
