man, I dig the TJ, surprised so many people don't like it. I like it at low vols too, lol. I have an EL34 version, actually 6CA7, as I didn't care for it with KT88/6550. I boost it for low vols, and just take the gain down, and it sounds great for my tastes. The global depth and presence controls make it pretty easy to dial high and lows accordingly.

if you are looking for something better at low volume try a mark V....can get some cool tones running in 10 watt mode

FWIW, I'm using both of my Uberschalls in an apartment (although I take them occasionally to my girlfriend's house to really crank them from time to time). Both of them sound much better at lower volumes than similar amps, but there's nothing like opening them up like they're meant to be. I'm still getting some pretty decent tones (considering the interface I'm using), and all of my sound clips are recorded at bedroom volumes. I'm holding onto them because I'll be living in a house within the next few months, but if you're going to be limited to low volumes for awhile I would suggest getting an Axe-FX. It's going to be hard to get a tube amp to sound decent at the volumes you need it to be at, even with an attenuator, and the Uberschalls are massively loud amplifiers, especially the Twin Jet which is ungodly. The Axe-FX allows you to get pretty awesome tones AND record them at sound levels that are acceptable in any living situation, as well as being cheaper than the average used Twin Jet.

Edit: Just threw the EL34's back in the Twin Jet. All I can say is that they are way, WAY more musical and pleasing to the ear than the KT88's or even the 6550's. Of course, I could change my mind next week, but for now this thing is beautiful...
