The legendary battle. Maybe the longest going fight for power in Metal Cabinet history. These are my top 3 choices for a new cab, right now I'm leaning towards the Uberschall, then Mesa and Orange tied. I play in a metalcore band, and lots, if not every, band I listen to plays Mesas or Oranges, the majority leaning slightly towards Mesas. But then again, I have heard that the Bogner Uberschall cab with the new front-loaded design is the best cab ever built. I like the note definition and clarity on the Uberschall, and there is an a/b comparison to an Orange, and I liked the Uberschall better, and so far it sounds like Mesas might be a tad bit overused these days, and although me having the same cab as so many successful bands use might seem like a good thing, I want to stand out, and supposedly the Uberschall Cab beats the Recto Cab 9 times out of 10. Then again, bands like Avenged Sevenfold (my favorite band of all time) use(d) Ubercabs for their first three albums I believe, and that shit kicks ass. I was gonna message a guy on here called Plank Cranker that I saw was also a fan of A7X and owned and opened a thread about the Ubercab, but Rig Talk has that requirement you do something before you can p.m. SOOOO, here I am. Also, I live in Maine, GC is 1.5 hrs away and does not have anything other than Marshalls in their store, and it is close to impossible to get a live comparison between any of the cabs listed here. Can anyone do an a/b comparison of a Mesa Recto Cab 412 and an Ubercab? Any suggestions for which cab? Thanks guys.

What amp are you using, and what tone are you shooting for?

I am using a 6505+ with that shitty free cab you get from GC. I have a Schecter Blackjack ATX C1-FR and soon to be (hopefully) an ESP Eclipse II. I also have some noise gates and other various pedals on a pedalboard. I am going for something heavier than most metalcore bands, but not quite at deathcore level. A really thick, yet defined note definition, deep with good amounts of treble, a lot of low, and of course tons of mids for solos (I would use an EQ pedal for that though, but I need a good for that anyways). Leads would be a lot like Avenged Sevenfold's (which is good for the Uberschall, cause they used it). I liked the amounts of all the stuff I just listed on the Uberschall, and the Mesa and Orange as well though, so its a hard decision.

No, not much of a battle at all really.....the recto cab has been widely used in the past because it was the best thing around at the time, when compared to what else was on the market like the Marshall cabs, fender, etc. There were no new style front loaded cabs built to the standards of today's top metal cabs. It is a no brainer why there were so many recto cabs bought and used. The Cadillac Eldorado was a nice car in it's day, but it's no Cadillac CTS.

The new Diezel German built FL cabs, Bogner Uberkab, and VHT fatbottom cabs are the three best out there and steps above all the others IMHO.

I use a Mesa oversized 4x12 and I love it. i replaced 2 of the stock v30s with mesa black shadow c90s and i love the sound of this cab.

Yeah, I just thought I'd draw in people's interest with those first two sentences. I agree that they are somewhat old fashioned now, but they were in my price range. I haven't really heard much about the VHT cab, but then again I haven't tried more than 10 good cabs before.

I've never tried this speaker before.

Front Loaded is important.

Front Loaded Bogner Uberkab, with the T75's X V30's, has been my METAL Go to Cab for all my shows this past year.
I have had the Mesa Standard Oversized Recto, and it sounds good too, but is too scooped in the midrange...and the guitar being a Midrange instrument...I sold the full stack and bought the Traditional cabs...
But since getting the Uberkab...
Everything sounds good through that one...

You could also have a look at the Port City 4x12 Cab. I really love them!!!

I've owned all these cabinets and the only cabinet I still own is a VHT Fatbottom, if that says anything (but I'm also an Axe FX dude so the cabinet isn't a huge a factor for me anymore). I've also replaced the speakers in the Fatbottom, even thought the stock speakers are excellent, especially for 5150 series amplifiers. You honestly couldn't go wrong with any of these, but my personal preferences would go VHT > Uberkab > Orange > Mesa... but Orange vs Mesa is EXTREMELY close for me.

UberKab. No contest for me.

Front-loaded cabs can be cool for some applications... but extremely directional sounding. The sound is like a laser beam to the ears if you stand anywhere in front of them. Something to try before you buy, if you've not used them before. They aren't as warm, and don't disperse the sound like a rear-loaded cab does.

This is to me the best speaker combo to use in a recto cab. Try the V30's and C90's in an X pattern, It solves the boomy, scooped nature of the cab.
C90's are thicker sounding speakers and compliment the V30's very well. Boosts the midrange spectrum.

I agree with the closeness of the two thing. Some years I think Orange is better, some years Mesa. it kinda fluctuates. And since everyone has been praising the fatbottom I will definitely look at it before I buy anything.

Overall I guess most of you are suggesting either Bogner or the VHT, so I will definitely go look at those two cabs and compare. I'll post back here when I have decided.

Thanks for the help. Since you guys have been so helpful on this forum, and I always have tons of noob-ish questions on gear, I have decided that I will be visiting this forum very often. Thanks!
