Bogner XTC 101b Gain Mod Yes/No

My updated two cents....just received the '01 I bought on ebay. I like the older red channel a bit better, at least for the moment. Certainly not lacking gain I'd love to do a side by side, but really don't feel like I'm missing anything. For me, it seems a bit more useable like this...like I said, at least for the moment!

I think at your volumes anything becomes high gain

If you're buying replacement tubes for the XTC, get EL34's that fall within the 25 to 30 mA range from Doug's Tubes, KCA NOS Tubes or Lord Valve. Those bias up very easily in the XTC. The 101B heads that I've owned had a very slim taper on the bias pot. In other words, the overall range is VERY narrow.
