If you're buying replacement tubes for the XTC, get EL34's that fall within the 25 to 30 mA range from Doug's Tubes, KCA NOS Tubes or Lord Valve. Those bias up very easily in the XTC. The 101B heads that I've owned had a very slim taper on the bias pot. In other words, the overall range is VERY narrow.
