how do you date them? I got my 101B used in 2004, it has the symbols for a serial number but how would one date that?

that tells you the serial number not the date.

The Ruby EL34 BHT was made to be able to handle high screen voltages, what issues were you having? I've had these in both my 101b and the 20th with no issues to date. Doug at Doug's tubes said they can handle very high voltages, designed as an extra rugged EL34. Yeh, my PV is around 535v.
All I can say is that the BHT's began to "red-plate" in class A mode. They also lacked definition compared the =C= tubes when running in class AB. I tried a second quad of BHT's with the same results. I then secured a quad of SED =C= tubes, and she's running like a top! Class A is sweet and crunchy - class AB is full 'o chunk! I spoke to Doug, and he said that "there may be some inconsistency in the BHT production...". I was told that the early Bogner XTC's run with a higher screen current, so maybe that's it?

A number of the earliest white-chassis 101B's went out with resistors that weren't marked properly. I know that the later white-chassis 101B's (with the heat-sink that's suspended above the chassis) had the correct resistors installed. It's an easy fix if you have an early white-chassis model... Call Jorg at Bogner for parts. The white-chassis 101B's are a bit finicky about power-tubes. If you put in a quad of tube it doesn't like, it will sound dull and lifeless. The right power-tubes will give you tone that has to be heard to be believed!

Funny, I GASSED for an XTC 101b for a long time. When I finally got it I was blown away. I gig'd with it for years. When I gave up gigs for home recording my own stuff I felt the XTC was not the amp I needed. I ended up getting a MESA Lonestar and hitting the front end with an OD pedal. That worked for me for several tracks. Last week I got a Strymon El Capistan and put it in the loop of the XTC. I hit the front end of the XTC with a Suhr Koko Boost...WOW! I forgot how great this amp sounds. With my much improved recording skills and equipment my next track will be the XTC.

I run a koko boost and el cap thru my shiva and it slays. Bogner makes a fine product. The slo/xtc hunt is killing me right now.

there's a metal grill XTC just popped up on TGP. Earlier model 101B for $2500.

That's probably the same w/c 101B that was up there before. I find the XTC perfect for home, recording, and gigging. The SLO is a cool amp - but it's just not built for home use. If Mike could make it as a 25/50/100 watt rig, that would be perfect. I just have a difficult time dealing with the SLO top-end "sizzle" at lower volumes. Attenuators work well with the SLO, but you just end-up killing that glorious tone. The high-point of an SLO is its ability to "cut-through" the mix... I just can't imagine what anyone who isn't gigging needs with an SLO100? The original Zinky Mofo is a great "mini-SLO" - minus the "sizzle". :)

Well, you could pull two inner or outer pairs of power tubes of the SLO and bring it down to 50 watts. I tried this when I had one, but it just ends up making the amp more compressed and neuters the low end...still plenty loud. I've heard good things about the Zinky Mofo...I suppose Jet City might also be an option for someone looking for a less robust SLO.

I hit the front of mine with a Koko also. Love it!!! My lead sound is the red channel in plexi mode hit with the Koko... Nice thick chewy tone with tons of sustain, and a surprising amount of clarity...

Dooop! My misunderstanding. Well, at least it's posted again I'm sure for the thousandth time on the remote chance there's a Bog user out there who actually hasn't seen it yet. :D

I suppose even assuming the serial numbers are incremental, it's tough to pin down an exact date.

FWIW, I've been gigging steadily with a 101B since the early 2000s and haven't had a single show where that thing hasn't put a huge smile on my face.

Jet City's price of $2500.00 for an Earhart 50 (MK50H II) is a steal! It's a great circuit, and works well for home, studio, and live. I would like to see a Jet City version of the Hellcat - but with tube rectifier. Okay... Maybe it's not a steal - but it's much sweeter than $3999.99 USD.

Reinhold is defintely not the best with using his website for IDing serial #s or updating things in general. So you just have to keep calling poor charlie lol.

Well my delima is now should I get a $2,000 -2004 101b with roadcase ( no shipping its local ) or get a $2,300 shipped 101b white chasis. decisions decisions....

I'm the guy with the $2500 XTC on eBay. I have since taken down the auction (and will never again sell anything on eBay) in protest of their criminal payment embargoes. And I won't be fully paid out for two more weeks, but that's another story.

Their loss is your gain. The price has been reduced for people who are willing to pay in some way that does not enrich eBay or PayPal. Same amp, same bag of goodies comes with it (medusa MIDI cable, two sets of tubes, footswitch). I am here to answer any questions, provide additional pictures or whatever you like.

The only thing I'm not comfortable doing myself is pulling the chassis. I don't want to break something and/or get killed in the process. What I can tell you is that the amp was fully inspected and tested at the Bogner shop after I bought it in 2006 and they gave it a clean bill of health. The tubes that are in it and the extra set of tubes were purchased when I picked the amp up.

Since then it has sat in my home studio. I don't smoke. It has never been gigged. In fact, it has never left this house since it got back from Bogner.

It's a beautiful-sounding amp in great condition and it needs a new home.
