Boost to tighten up amp any suggestions?

I see many people use Tube screamers as a clean boost to tighten up amps
Was wondering what would be the best OD for this:
Maxon 808
Keeley moded : ts808, ts9
Fulltone OCD
Etc.

The amp im using is a Mesa Mark IV it already has a very tight response but i like really tight feeling amps.
 
Ever think about the BBE Sonic Stomp pedal? That will make your amp crazy tight. I think it would work better than an OD pedal. The mesa already has a good tone... OD pedals are only gonna flatten the response out.
 
Have tried them on many occasions and never liked them.
They made any amp sound harsh i dont need it for metal as i dont play that genre just have allways loved the feel of a very tight amp while boosting it slighlty with an OD.
Ive been using my BB preamp for this but i like it alot more for Leads then Rythm's.
 
I like the OCD, BB Pre, or the HBE Doomsday Device for tightening up my Nitro. I have tried many TS style pedals but these do a better job IMO.
 
I don't think the MK IV will ever be as tight as a Dual Recto, or a Marshall - all the MK amps I've tried were fat, but not tight (sounds like a bad girlfriend)! Can't you tighten it up a bit by messing with the many EQ options? Better than putting noise in the chain!
 
If you get the chance, try a Krankshaft. I prefer it over the Maxon 808.
 
I use a Maxon OD808 & a BB Pre into my slightly overdriven Marshall VM. I leave them both off for "clean", the Maxon for crunchy rhythm and the BB for solos with a slight volume boost. Works great.
 
I used a Maxon OD-9 with mine and loved it. I would love to try one of Paul Cochrane's Tim pedals. They sound great!
 
I've owned pretty much every boost mentioned here, and nothing beats my trusty old MIJ SD-1 for tightening up an amp. I used one with my a MKIV for a year and a half and it worked like a charm...

+1.. I had one and it worked great. Very transparent too. Work great too as a buffer for long cable runs.

Define tight then. Because in my experience, the DR is fartier than... uh, a really farty thing. :no:

The key in taming the hiss is to cut presence. Also, the mids need to be cranked and the bass should be below noon...
 
Agreed with above post whatever pedal i get im going to use it in the same way as my BB which is gain rolled all the way off and volume boosted slightly best sound with the BB IMO.
Ive been thinking about some Barber Electronics stuff like a LTD SR sounds like it would do the job or any of the Direct drives.

Rectos are dry not tight in my experience Mesa Mark IV's have a compressed feel which i love! But want to tighten things up a little moe :)
 
I think the TS pedals do great for tightening up an amp. They definitely shave some bass and boost some mids, but that's a big factor for tightening your sound. If your guitar and/or amp already have a plethora of bass then it may not be an issue, but if not you can add it back with an eq in the loop. I've got some monstrous tones doing that.
 
Any one have any experience with the LTR SR or DD's as clean boosts?
 
Timmy pedal. You can tailor the eq curve and feel to suit your needs.
