Boosting a Friedman BE? (Joe Holmes Territory)

So I like gain (self explanatory I know)

I've stuck on the HBE input for a while adding the SAT switch here and there too it but with my new speakers, the BE with SAT gets much more into the Joe Holmes/EVH ballpark.

So if I was looking for a tad more gain/saturation/sizzle, what would I do?

My bridge pup is at 9k but I'm thinking about getting an overwound Detroiter from Wade. I'm also using a Badgeplex EP3 to boost but it adds a little low end and sustain. I'm also adding a 10 Band EQ trying to get a bit more out of the amp.

Not trying to sound like Joe. I couldn't afford it

But definitely trying to get into that ballpark.

Thanks!

You seriously are using HBE input and Sat PLUS a boost and PLUS an EQ and your looking at needing more gain and saturation? You cant be serious?

No! Variations man!

The Boost is for the poor man's echoplex flavor (set low) and the EQ is a mid boost and trims the highs a bit for solos.

HBE plus SAT is for fun trying to get into that overly saturated territory.

I mainly use straight BE or straight HBE.

I'm using both a Duncan Distortion and a Duncan Custom in to my Marsha. Plenty of gain. By the way, which holmes clip are you referencing for the amount of gain your wanting?

Up your pickups, go active, or boost the front end. Gain the hell out of it. You play for fun, right? I'm the only one that listens to me play; been having a ton of fun with over saturation and adding a delay...ghost notes that are still going 30 seconds later. Guitar is supposed to be fun; make all the noise you want!

I would not get a hotter pickup, a boost pedal will do the trick.

Any transparent boost will be great with the SAT, if you wanna add a bit more meat for leads, the Xotic XP works great for me. If you rather want more heavy/krrrangggg then a hard on, or maybe a MXR Micro Amp or something like that (for this application I successfully use a Radial PB1).

Personally I find the gain of the BE sounds great until 9 or slight above. Fully cranked there is a bit of fizz I don't like on the last 10% of the poti.

i didn't hear a boatload of gain on the most recent Joe Holmes clips, lots of clarity and chewiness though

yes he runs a shitload of gain and it's drenched in reverb and delay to boot. :D

More gain from the amp circuit isn't the same as a boost, nice to see the OP experimenting with boosting an amp that you're "not supposed to".

Whatever sounds good there are no rules.

Yeah the new Famikos clip is 'THAT' sound that I've wanted for a long time.

My amp comes wicked close but that chewiness is hard to get. It was so raw and organic. It had classic 'Jose' written all over it.

Someday, I'd love to do the W/D/W set up with 2 SDE3000s and the Boss ME70.

That Farmikos clip is insane. Such great tone.

Reminds me of my Atomica. The BE doesn't have the sleaze factor that I hear going on.

The BE is just classic refined modded Marshall. Not so much the Jose thing but with the SAT switch on and using the BE input, you can get pretty close.

I haven't tired an Atomica or any of Mark's mods for that matter. I've always been interested though.

BE with cleen boost.

HBE boosted Balls Deep.

The 2nd clip sounded alright. You gotta lower the pickups or the gain a tad. Even raise the volume as it's too fizzy.

 The Atomica is much rawer and more aggressive than the BE100 IMO.

I really want to know when the Farmiko's stuff will be released!!!

Didn't you just post a comment in an EVH thread about VH1 being a product of studio as much as it was the amp?? Same applies to Farmikos, that could sound different in a diff studio and with diff mics and pre amps. More saturation, get a BB preamp and boost boost boost.
