Boosting a Friedman BE? (Joe Holmes Territory)

I had the Atomic and have the newer BE100. The BE can get into Atomica territory quite convincingly. I found solo notes had an annoying quality with the Atomica unlike the BE100. YMMV. I'm curious about the Old Bitch but I have enough amps.

I have boosted my BE with EP booster; works nicely.

Doesn't Dave make an OD pedal? Maybe shoot him an email he can suggest a few pedals that will work, or maybe ask on the Friedman forum.

Yeah the new Famikos clip is 'THAT' sound that I've wanted for a long time.

My amp comes wicked close but that chewiness is hard to get. It was so raw and organic. It had classic 'Jose' written all over it.

Someday, I'd love to do the W/D/W set up with 2 SDE3000s and the Boss ME70.

Didn't you just post a comment in an EVH thread about VH1 being a product of studio as much as it was the amp?? Same applies to Farmikos, that could sound different in a diff studio and with diff mics and pre amps. More saturation, get a BB preamp and boost boost boost.

I did comment regarding studio magic but in the case of EVH vs Joe, prople tend to mul over EVH for days/months etc. and close is never good enough for an EVH tone chaser as the EVH leading authorities come in and ruin that person's hope/perspective regarding their accomplidhment.

You could throw a PCM-41 in the loop, I thought I read Joe used that as additional gain stage. I only run W/D due to gear limitations but man what a difference over a dry signal alone. I can only imagine how a W/D/W sounds.

We need more Farmikos ASAP!

I run just W/D, but I do have two SDE3000s. Just have not taken the time to figure out how to run mismatched wet ohm cabs with the Matrix1000.

Yes, when is this CD going to be released?

I bet it will sound good; you'll have to put up a clip when you get it going.

Don't know about Farmikos, not soon enough though....It's funny how many times one can watch a 1:34 clip lol.

Here are the two songs that have been posted earlier this year.

Yeah. I found that post that Dave wrote about regarding Joe's amp.

Loosely:

Joe has an insert point before the volume I guess and he runs his PCM a certain way that acts like an extra gain stage.

I just have to try a bunch of different things with it. Like I said earlier, BE w/SAT is pretty damn close to Joe's sound and at this point, that's quite fine with me.

Now his live sound is another issue

Steve H has hit the nail on the head for that set up though. But if I were to do it, the cost breakdown would be unfeasible for me ATM. Two SDE 3000 run roughly 700 for a set and either a Boss ME70 or Capistan (as in Steve's set-up) to serve as the 'send' to the other cabs. Plus a power amp; it'd be insane to run!

Nope. It'd spoil the spell

I use the Badgerplex Pre with my Marsha but not really as a boost...it simply adds a bit of girth to the tone, especially for single note lines. I can't imagine using more gain than the HBE setting with the gain dimed...Holmes certainly isn't using that much.

Only diming on BE. I like a ton of gain in my rig but then again, I palm mute most passages and use an ISP to clean up between notes. It's very controlled surprisingly.

When I'm using HBE, the gain is at 7 and all switches are off.

The Badger doesn't add much. Maybe fattens things up a tad and adds some clarity with the buffer but the ultimate 'job' for it is to be paired with an El Capistan.
