Boss DM-101 vs Strymon DIG in Stereo, with a bit of Neon Egg Planetarium

I quite enjoyed the Boss and the Dig. Not sure about the Neon Egg Planetarium. Can I ask, do you like the Dig for high gain sounds? Other than Leon Todd's Dig video I haven't seen many vids of the Dig in a metal context.

I use the DIG all the time for high gain stuff. Any of my clips, or Scott's Tonenerd clips, that have delay is the DIG. I find it equally useful for high gain and acoustic guitar, for adding ambience that you barely notice, but miss when it's not there.

Back at it this morning. Same 20 second diddy, first one with DM-101, 2nd with DIG.
I can hear the difference, but it's minimal in a mix. I love the look and sound of the DM-101, but honestly not sure it's worth $425

I've come close to pulling the trigger on the DM-101 a couple of times now .... BBD delays have always been more about feel than sound to me ..... I love how they put some " Squish " on your attack .....
but I'm such a set it and forget kind of guy ............ I would use about 10 % of it's features .... and at 450 - 500 bucks .... ahhh well
I'll stick to my Vapor Trail Deluxe or my JHS Panther Cub

That's a big part of the difference, and the murder repeats. Most of which is lost in a mix, with the DIG just a bit crisper sounding. That feel thing does inspire some cool ideas though, that I don't make up with the DIG. Here's another:

The Gibson in this Vid ..... is just plain SICK !!! what a gorgeous guitar !!
Thanks man!!!!!!
I ran the racks at several stores, played like 8 different 335s. This one was clearly a level above the rest in sound and playability. I don't play it as often as my other guitars, but when I do, looove it every time. It's special.

I gotta get one one of these days ......

Last one. Geeking out. Thinking the DM will go back. Love the look and sound, but so redundant.

Took some pics just for you, Griff

Since I'm here...
Go ez on me. I'm letting it all hang out in this clip.
Tryna learn this song, on the struggle bus.
I got familiar with a few notes and hit record. Never played the solo parts before. It's gonna take some time to get it down.
Posting it here because the Boss DM-101 "doubling +delay" setting nails that studio sound. This is the 335 straight inthe @scottosan Rocca, 1st diode setting, thicker cathode bypass cap, no bright switch. DM-101 in the effects loop, Hot Plate set to -8db. Pretty great blues hard rock tone.

Yes, iced tea. Could almost be a honey burst? I don't know much about the different historical Gibby paint jobs.
I will say, the figured 335s consistently played and sounded better than the satins. Also, it wasn't difficult to get it for $3300 instead of $4g. Tone Shop and GC both were dealing hard.

IMO ..... 3300 is a really .... really good price on that . Nice Score

Funny story, really. Long story, if you have the time.
A year ago, last December, I was out shopping Les Paul Customs. Playing em, old and new, nothing thrilling me too much. Played an ES-335 on a whim. Dude. The tone was goooood. Goal shifted, hunted and found this one.

But it gets better. While I was playing this 335 the first time, and again a few days later when I came back to it, because it was top tier...
I was playing it thru an SLO100.
I didn't know it, but I had played thru this particular SLO a year before at the Dallas guitar show.
A couple of the GC managers that know me tried to get me to buy it back then, because it was "a good one", best they heard come thru the shop. Unobtainium Classictone trannies, 5881s instead of 6L6s, which were being used due to tube shortage, yada yada. Played it, an SLO 30 and a BE Dlx 100 at the show. The SLO100 smoked em, but I didn't want or need another amp at the time.
Fast forward to a year later. I've been playing all these LPs and 335s thru many different amps. This 335 was obviously "the one", and that SLO sounded better than all the other amps I played thru. Plexis, JCMs, Mesas...
The guitar amp combo was just killing.
GC dude told me it's the one he tried to get me to buy a year earlier. Really? Ugh.
I compared it to another SLO100 in snakeskin, sitting on top of it. No contest. Guess it's a good one. Guess I have to have it.
So, I worked a deal for both, the amp and guitar. I was shaking. Never spent so much $ on guitar gear at once. The most I spent on a guitar, most I spent on an amp, and I did both at once.
Traded in my EVH 50 Stealth and sold my MOAB modded 80s Anniversary model 2204 in white to recoup some $. Loved that MOAB. But this SLO, well...
Let's put it this way. There are 4 guys that will check me if I ever try to sell it.

Anyway, that was a good day. I had to imbibe to calm my nerves. Both, amp and guitar have been stellar since.

There's a Rock n Roll Relics Lightning at the Tone Shop in Addison that they've had forever. Dunno if the style is something you'd be into, but it plays and sounds fantastic. I considered selling my 335 so I could buy it. But the 335 will hold its value. These off brands take a hit on resale. But if it is a look you can dig, it plays and sounds like an LP Custom and 335 had a baby. Really good. As good as any Gibson I've played. And I'm sure they'd do 20% off, if not more.

Awesome! Good to hear. I feel like so many of the demos of the Dig sound great, but never focus on high gain. Instead they rely on showing ambient clean stuff.
Check out as many as you can. It was crazy how the sound and feel varied.
That's something I always find challenging about guitars. You can play one that sounds and feels great in a store and then order the model on Sweetwater and get a dud. Just had that a couple months ago where I played a Fender American Professional II that felt great to play at a store, but am now doubting whether it's worth ordering after reading a number of instances of quality control issues from Fender these days.
