Boss GT3 question

Is there any way to use the effects in a standalone manner or do you have to use them within the confines of a patch? I want to use the modulation effects(delay, chorus, flange)into the effects send\return jack on my amp such as i would a stompbox.

you can assign what each switch toggles...just dont choose the preamps/ODS
