Boss Katana

I'm of the opinion that a tube amp is slightly better to me. But I can no longer spend 1500 or more on an amp when I have the Katana! It simply sounds, plays and does everything I want when I want and consistently time after time!

Above klips sound great!

I had a bunch of goals on this day off. All thwarted by playing my Katana through my Marshall cab for hours.
Make that 2 of us. Cranking this little bastard up is such a surreal thing.

The key to my ears and for feel is to 3/4 the master and use the volume knob by the gain for your ultimate level!!!!!

Oh hell yeah. This is not a replacement for my Friedman. I just like the feel and gain more on the Boss than the red channel on my DSL. Now, boosting the green channel of the DSL is a different story, but i haven't ran an amp with a boost since my old 2203.

+1 on the clips, thanks for posting! Awesome chops. Definitely gives a better idea on the tone.mids seem solid, no shortage of gain or volume as mentioned. Has me wanting to play one and purchase based on this clip. Of course having your chops would help even more:)

Nice Vid Man! Ill get mine sooner or later, sent my wife a text with the info and a note.. "next time you want to buy me something, get this" As long as i get it by next football season, Ill be golden. Should be a great little bedroom amp head with that speaker in there.

Just got a call from Sweetwater. In discussion, he mentioned the footswitches should be in early March. They have had issues keeping up to demand for them because of the Katana amps.

I love tube amps ... that said ... it's 2017

Why shouldn't amps sound amazing at a lesser value. The boutique amp prices are outrageous especially for one trick ponies. And we also go on n on about it doesn't sound this or that. Let me tell you I just played out live w the Katana. IF, this amp was covered or put in a different shell, how many people would know ? How many people would care ? I know it feels great, it sounds great, it is easy to transport n set up. Its all a win-win !

Do not to say it replaces anything but I'm just over spending huge $$$ on one trick ponies. 2017 it should be awesome.

Wow. That has some pretty good thump to it. Sounds pretty tight too. Was that the brown setting? Are you impressed.

Thanks for the clip.

Brown setting. I am seriously impressed by this amp. Best solid state I have ever played. Not once did I feel like it was SS. The "Feel" is right to me. Will it replace my tube amps? It lacks a touch of sparkle and warmth only tubes can give. No but I feel I could grab this head and gig it tomorrow night. I owned a Kemper and an AXeFX. I would honestly rather have this. Haters gonna hate but it's easy to use and I found a usable tone in 30 seconds. On each channel actually. Boss hit a home run with this. IMO

Thanks for checking it out!!!

Hahaha thanks brother! I don't think you will be disappointed with the amp! Thanks again for the kind words!

I am very likely going to grab one of these. I mentioned on another forum it COULD make me sell the AX8 but in retrospect, probably not. The AX8 does a lot the Katana won't ever be able to do. one thing I learned is that with only 4 channels and 3 effects per, there are some instances where I will just have to have the AX8 BUT...

the Katana seems like something you really would have to be an idiot to NOT buy. At it's price point of a dollar a day annually, it just sounds too good. Seems like the ultimate grab and go backup for any rig plus with the editor allowing for deep-dive parameter editing, you should really be able to dial in some killer effects.

My plan is to buy one and do some comparisons running the Katana and AX8 both into my Torpedo Studio so I can use the same IR's and try to do some apples to apples tones and see if there is a discernible difference. I am guessing with the AX I will just have to grab a JCM800 type model to use against the Boss Lead?

Has anyone tried one of the combo versions? Seems like it would be pretty cool for small venues, and practicing at home? Or is it better as a head and small cab?

I have the 100 watt 2x12.

At first I felt that the amp was a little "boomy" with the open back, but I bought a really nice back for it from "The Damn Cabinet Co" which makes these specifically for the Katana 2x12...stupid easy to put on and looks completely stock. Kinda sucks to need to buy, but that made the amp a lot better for me, as I've only used heads/cabs for years and like I said it sounded a bit odd to me at loud volumes using drive.

In any event, my experience has been positive with the amp, and I just bought it on a whim along with the footswitch. There are some limitations with the number of effects and such that can be used, so a Fractal it is not, but still pretty cool.

I use an AX8 nearly exclusively now to gig and I'd consider using this Katana as another smaller easy-to-use rig at some point as well.

Wow. It's too bad everyone knows what you are using because I think if you had posted a clip saying "Check out my new $4k+ boutique amp" people might have been freaking at how good it sounds. Now there will be those saying, "yeah, it's pretty good but I can tell blah blah blah".

The amp sounds killer and more importantly, you sound killer through that amp!

Well shit! I was kind of on the fence about getting one, but after hearing this I just ordered mine/ Ordered the head version. Darn you R/T. I think this forum should get a little kick back from Boss. Including me, thats what, 3 or 4 people in this thread alone that bought one recently

between here, TGP and GAB we must have bought a decent amount haha

So I stopped in and played the 100 watt 1x12. A modeling amp never crossed my mind. Had never seen one and had a smoking tone in about 10 seconds on a guitar I'd never played. I had an ax8 for about 3 weeks. Never enjoyed it because of just that.. So deep with options I'm not interested in. Having all that processor tells me it's more about quanity. The Katana was very impressive from the tone side of things. It's a rock guitarist friend period, I like it better than any other modellers I have heard or played. I thought of it more as an amp than a modeler. Now the true question is how good it sounds pushing air at Club volumes. Not so much is it loud enough but is it rich at those volumes.

Sounds better at gig volumes actually.
It does, but it doesn't have as much of a bloom if you will like my favorite tube amps. But unlike other SS amps it does improve a bit with higher volumes. It really is impressive.

But I would still caution guys into thinking this will REPLACE your favorite high end tube amp..IMO it won't quite get there.
