id like to pick up a couple used sd-1's for use and modding; but I understand the new ones are digital? what year did this start? and; any tell tell signs cosmetically so I can spy that easily on reverb etc...?

They’re not digital but I believe the new ones have switched to SMD rather than though-hole components.
They should be more or less the same though SMD will be harder to work on or mod since the components are much smaller.

It's not digital, but surface mounted device. components are now smaller than rice grains but are still analog

I have one that used to Belong to Bandmate of Mine....He was in a Punk Band in High School that was called "Suck a Dick" so he drew "S.A.D." All over parts of the pedal in Sharpie. If you want it, it's yours.
