Finally got one and I’m looking to use in the loop of my 6505+ for the huge tones.

The amp really sounds killer plugged straight in but so many people use the MXR I thought I’d give it a try.

How do you guys set it and why?

I love that, not too saturated heavy tone where you chug and it has that cack to it. Aggressive high end, tight bottom, stout mids.

Thanks for your suggestions!

FYI, I have the silver one.

I tend to use the frown face, boosted mids by a couple notches, highs a little boost and tend to not boost the bass to much, can get too woofy.

Like i mentioned in another thread, i just got an Empress paraEQ..... Night and day difference. For the better!!!!

Mucho crunch to it, no noise, no woofyness, no piercing highs, a very musical pedal.

Here is the little text i wrote about it:

Just wanna add something i came upon recently. Been using an MXR 10 band with all my amps for years, great results.

But i just vot an Empress Paraeq.... My god, what a difference. This thing sounds so massive and rich, crunchy. Brings a 3D ness to the tone that is not fattening, just bolder. Keeps the low end tight, and crunchy. Sometimes you loose a big of crunchyness with an EQ if you try and get your tone fatter. But this thing rocks hard.

Might grab another one for my other rig. Well worth it, when you find a used one as they are pretty pricey new.

oh and i just snatched another Empress in Reverb an hour ago, selling my MXR that i have had for years. Still an awesome pedal though, dont get me wrong, but i just found better.

You will love the MXR man, big difference.

I would recommend 2 EQ's; one as the last pedal before the Amp's input and one as the first pedal in the Amp's loop. You're basically putting one right before and right after the amps pre-amp. Ultimate in sculpting.

I always have the EQ in front of the input in a frown so to boost the mids, cut the flub.
I always have the EQ first out of the Loop set in a smily face, adds the balls.
Adjust each to the desired aggression....

The ParaEQ looks cool but I just watched a video on it and realized that I would never stop f'ing with it. Would eventually drive me crazy. Same reason I stopped using my MXR 10 band. Always f'ing with it.

Does sound really good though.

It is a set and forget pedal for me, once i have it fined tuned with the amp, the cabinet and the room, i dont have to fiddle with no more.

A mid Q works wonders.

Just start suckin and bumpin sliders my man. Let your ears do the adjusting. I have been playing an mxr 10 band for the last 10 years and absolutely wouldn't play a single amp without it in the loop. HUGE improvement in tone!

BINGO. 100% Agreed. If you want massive, tight chug, this is the way to go. I'm using an RP1000 in 4CM - Running an EQ in front, and an MXR 10-Band in the loop. Into an already massive sounding XXX head, mind you.

When I first picked up my RP1000 years ago, I spent some time tweaking it using the 4CM. I should spend more time digging through it again because it does make this easier. I just always had an issue getting the master and channel volumes right so that I was at unity with the amp bypassed. Complete user error mind you.

I only use it on one patch at the moment with the amp and cabs bypassed and only click on the reverb or delay on occasion. I will use the wah also. Otherwise, it's a giant noise gate.

Getting the volumes set is the key, for sure.

PM when you're ready to revisit, and I'll let you know my settings.

I use the pedal as a volume, 100% of the time. These days, I don't even need 4cm, I don't use any models, and use it in pedalboard mode, effects only.

Wow! Well, I'll just start with the one and see where it goes!
Thanks

I figured that's what I'd do. I just wanted to know if there were tricks or a couple standard settings that sound fantastic.
Thanks!

thanks for the response. I'll start with the frown.
I'll use the MXR for a while and see how it goes. The Empress sounds empressive......
