Brand prejudices

I have no issue with things being made there as far as quality concerns or anything like that. I just don't like the idea of spending money to eventually be taxed by a government using it to build a military force to use against us and our allies. I know it's mostly impossible to get by with buying Chinese built goods, so I'm not trying to say I don't. I just don't when I have a choice. Used, mostly fine. That's crazy though, I didn't know MIC was a thing that far back with Squier.

Weird topic BTW.. Honestly, I'm indifferent about Marshall stuff. Never owned an OG 70's or 80's amp. It's already been done.
I've played latter stuff like JCM 2000 and it's just limp and mushy to me.
 
I'm guilty of a few, and haven't let go of avoiding Epiphone & Squier for those reasons. Over more recent years I've gotten to equate LTD guitars to budget-minded Metallica fans.

Squier. Epiphone. Bugera. Line 6.

I would rock a Squier now, especially one of the Korean ones. An Epiphone? Probably not. Just don't like em. Never have.

I have a killer amp so no need for a Bugera or Line 6 to enter the arsenal.

A good guitar is a good guitar and a bad one is a bad one. I do sorely miss a Japanese Strat I used to have. Miss an old USA one I had too!! Experience teaches like no other.

Same...also it didn't help that 20 years ago I could get an 80's Japanese made Burny or Greco for the same price as a used Epiphone...and the quality difference is night and day.
Hmm, one exception; my Epiphone Wildkat. But then again, I wanted a particular look, size and config, and at the time, Gretsch wasn't making that. But after trying to replace the shitty wiring (>900pF capacity!!!) I never managed to get it back working, so it currently is in pieces...
If I ever get it back to work, I may still sell it and perhaps get a Gretsch 5120 for the once-in-a-blue-moon rockabilly itch....

Totally hear ya on LTD...and the elite versions are new almost as expensive as a used ESP. So that's what I got. :cool:
When I was around 18 or so, I got this black GrassRoots (Asian budget ESP line) Horizon with an H-S config and a Lic. Floyd, that I sold after a few years, but always loved the simplistic look of... So it made me hunt a 'real' ESP Horizon after many years.
Also that Grass Roots, *after* having replaced the pickups with a Duncan '59 and Little '59 was in my experience the only guitar that could make a Marshall JCM900 Dual Reverb actually sound good at a rehearsal room that we used.

Note: picture is from some German shop selling one, but I had the exact same one. No fb inlays, black body, rosewood board.

A cheap guitar with a good setup can sound better than an expensive one with a shitty setup.
 
That is one thing i hate about technology, the Internet, etc. Finding great deals is nearly impossible now. Everyone can jump online and try to get rich with their old gear. I miss the old days of swapping guitars, helping each other and giving deals, etc
 
Yeah, for me, it's Epiphone. I gave them a chance, and they disappointed me. They're not cheap anymore either.

Another one would be PRS SE. Same story as with Epiphone. I kept giving them second chances, and a couple of the ones I oned had bad QC defects. The ones that didn't had lousy hardware and pickups. For not very cheap either.

I like Squier, TBH. Same kind of quality as Epiphone just at a fraction of the price.
 
I'll take this chance to knock the holy trinity of gear brands,,,,,,Gibson, Fender, and Marshall.
Just not for me.

See, those are my go-to ?

Just curious, what gear do you play thru? I'll he honest, for hard rock and metal, Fender doesn't feel or sound right for that music. I know people have done it but I'd rather grab something else.

As far as Marshall goes, I honestly haven't owned a Marshall in years. It has been 5150-III and Friedmans. I think I like the Marshall tone.
