Driving into work today.
About an hour drive. Listened to some old Queen on the way in.
Man....he is such a unique player. Tone and style.
I guess I never paid much attention in the past. But I was rocking out by the time I pulled in work.
Classic Queen and the Flash Gordon Sound track.
Weird but KILLER stuff!
Anyone else Digging Queen/ Brian May?

Dan

Sure....everyone with good taste! :D

I know there are a lot of Queen fans on the board.

He is just such a subtle guitarist.
I dont really hear too much about him since he isnt doing the Dive bombs or the shredding runs! :D
I was digging it today though for sure!
He was using VOX amps and his home made guitars right?
Didnt Guild make a Brian May Signature model if I remember?

I'll always stop and listen if Queen is playing...I have all of their stuff...prefer the earlier, rawer productions when the guitar wasn't quite so subtle..but the playing was still refined.

Vox (65w?) amp (amps actually since he slaved one for FX) with a kind of treble boost circuit that was originally built for him 'Deaky' ? Meh, it's been a long time...

Yeah the Guild Red Special was nice...very collectible now.

There's a more recent version by another company which was ultimately officially licensed with May....don't recall but you can buy 'em through the big stores....the trem is not accurate and couple other things but it's a nice guitar for $800

Its made by a uk company called BURNS..though there not made in the uk..i think somewhere in the far east..but for the ££'s yeah there pretty good

A lot of people thought that Brian had a custom model AC30 back in the day. People have been trying to copy his tone for many years. The secret to his unique sound was the fact that he ran all of his pedals in front of the amp and they WERE NOT true bypass. The tone sucking from the input of the guitar to the amplifier caused the sound to be a "positive loss" (at a tone perspective, at least).

Queen is awesome. Period.

Is the song ONE VISION from that sound track?

The song is on the kind of magic album..but didnt appear in the film or the soundtrack..whereas some of the other tracks did..

Love Brian May and Queen!!!!!!

I was a big fan of Brian May's playing when i was very young, and still to this day i think his playing and tone on those early Queen records was killer!!

Queen is a great band deifinately in a class all their own. Brian May's solos are so beautiful. I love playing the solo to crazy little thing called love.

Thats a great way to describe his tone on his solos.
BEAUTIFUL!!
Very very smooth and silky.
That Flash Gordon soundtrack has some GREAT tracks on it.
Anyone else ever hear it?

Brian is an astounding guitarist in my opinion. No one has ever even come close to sounding or playing like him. Pure, dripping emotion in every note he squeezes out. Love him!

+100

Theme to Flash Gordon is my ring tone. The guitar sounds he got on their recordings with Mack are to this day my favorite hard rock guitar sounds. Listen to The Hero or Dragon Attack (or anything off The Game), absolutely fire-breathing. His solos are incredible compositions unto themselves. Not just the initial melody but also his amazing choice of harmonies and also how he adjusted his tone for each of the harmony lines for maximum size and expression. Really good acoustic player too. Love of my life is amazing.
