Bridge pickup for a Les Paul

A JB is an awesome all around pickup for a LP. I had one in my LP custom for a few years. Good output but reacts well to vol roll off and it's not harsh like I feel Ceramic pickups are. I ended up changing it out for a '57 Classic and never looked back. A tad more openess in the midrange but still plenty of push. More ring on the top strings. I still think a JB is great and keep it around for putting in another Gibson for more harder stuff. I think 8-9/10K in a LP or SG into a driving Marshall or Fender amp is the shit.

The best sounding bridge pickups I've had in my Les Pauls are:

Rio Grande BBQ (currently have this in my '71 LP Custom)
BurstBucker 2 (came stock in my R8 and it sounds killer)
Duncan Custom

YMMV

Chris
See, I think the BBQ would be really good in a Custom, as Customs allways seam brighter than Standard LP's. But I'm worried it might not be bright enough in my guitar. I played a BBQ in an all Korina Hamer and LOVED it! I mean.....loved it!

Always been a fan of the 500T in my LPC...though I might want to try a BBQ.

I like the Duncan Pearly Gates pretty well in a LP. With a Jazz in the neck or a matching PG.

I would really like to try some of the mid/high output Bare Knuckles like the Nailbomb. I think they would sound really nice in a good LP.

Another crazy suggestion would be some Duncan Blackouts. Get that active pickup push, but with a more passive tone.

Duncan Distortion in the bridge, and a AII Pro in neck position. There is no better combo in my Les Pauls, atleast.

I want to replace the BB2 in my 57RI with something medium to high output and very well balanced. Any suggestions?

I like the Duncan Distortion better than the JB in LPs and other mahogany guitars. Neck is either a '59 or an Alnico 2 by german manufacturer "Rockinger", which I like better than the '59.

Not something many people try but, an Air Norton is the neck position of an LP is :inlove:

Yep!
And I really liked the Rio Grande BBQ in the bridge of my LP. This was combined with the AN, actually :)

I have a BBQ in my LP studio and LP custom. It sounds great in the LP custom, very balanced. On the LP studio it sounds a bit thin and dark, I am still adjusting it though....

Cant go wrong with a Duncan Distortion in a Lespaul's bridge.

i personally like the bb3 or duncan distortion in a les paul.

Duncan Distortions are my favorite!

JB - Have you thought about a Suhr Aldrich in your LP?? You liked them in the PRS correct??

+1 to the Suhr Aldrich. Those things sound fabulous in the PRS that you sold me.

Yes, I have thought about them, but they're higher output than I want.

That guitar kicks ass doesn't it? Oh, by the way, I saw the back plate sitting here the other day.....sorry about that. :scared: I'll try and remember to send it to you.

Maybe I'm just nuts, but I have an old JB from the early 80's that I swear to god sounds better than the newer models. I've had it in the bridge of my LP for almost a year now and it sounds amazing.

I bet if you ohmed that out, the resitance would be a lot lowwer than the new production ones. I talked to Mark Cameron about this. He has an old one that ohms out at around 9k, where the new ones are what......14k or something?
