I have a Duncan Pearly Gates and don't really like it...or maybe my Splawn doesn't like it? Anyways, I was thinking a Custom Custom or a Tom Anderson H2+

any others?

I dig the H2+ in Alder bodies. Works great with the Splawn.

Duncan Custom works incredibly well in alder IMO. Really thick and lots of crunch.

+1. That is what is in the bridge of my partsy right now. I just got and Aldrich that I will probably throw in there next week to see how that sounds.

I love my Bareknuckle VHII in my strats, but they aint cheap.

I really like the Anderson H2+ in my Alder bodied Fender Strat. Its got about the output of a Seymour Duncan JB....

Motor City Pickups Afwayu sounds great in my alder bodied ESP custom. Its a pretty hot pickup though, more output than a JB I think. Harmonics-wise, the ESP now squeals like a pen of breeding pigs, which is tribute to the hand-winding of the pickup.

I've heard that Alder is like the chicken of guitar woods... does that mean that a lot of pickups will work in Alder?
