Anyone compare the BE/HBE and the KH2/KH3 modules? I have a BE that dave did a few weeks ago and I dig it but thinking I'd like the HBE a bit better. Looking for a bit more gain and muscle. I have been using my KH2 and KH3 dialed back for more of a beefy marshall tone lately and just wondering how Dave's mods compare
I have owned all of them and can tell you the Hairy Brown eye si the HEAVY Muscle Marshall tone there is. I wouldnt call it a "Metal" module but VERY BEEFED UP Marshall. I liked the Brown eye but preffer Dave's Brahma mod over that(just my prefference) The KH2 and KH3 sound good but the Hairy Brown eye mod blows them away. Once you get it and play it in person(not just the clips) you will know what I am yakking about.

I have the BE on my 71' Super Tremolo and it's incredible for tracking rock guitars. But less gain is usually better in reality for making records more gain is more fun when standing in front of the amp. I have found when layering rhythm tracks to much gain makes the guitars sound weak and washed out. Personally, I love big gainey loud amps and have bucked the reality of less gain when tracking for years and most times when I do the tracks suffer and I end up retracking the guitars with less gain, I cannot tell you how many times I've done it.
The BE IMO is perfect for rock. Now with all that said I'm having Dave do a triple mod (BE, Custom 45, HBE) on my 77' 100 watt Super Lead, mainly cuz I can't stop bagging my head when I listen to his Scumback demo. So just when you thought you were confused you should be me.
I hear you on that DEMO! Man....freaking best tone! My Modded SL+ Hairy Brown eye....sounds EXACTLY like that last part of the clip with the gain about 2 o'clock. Whats cool about it.....I drop the gain to about noon.....a 'Heavy' Brown sound!! Throw down some old Kiss songs with that 'modern' HBE and its OFF THE HOOK!!
I never gotten more compliments then I have from the HBE. But for me personally....Dave's Brahma Mod....SWEETEST TONE EVER.
If I had to throw out all amps and pedals and just keep one thing....it would be Daves Brahma mod. No shit. Its that good.
Correct. I had Dave do the "Brown Eye" mod on my Plexi module for my randall amp but liked his "Brahma" mod. That is one of George Lynch's Signature modules tone. Dave makes it sound so KILLER. Believe based off a 68' Plexi?
